What's best for pistol cleaning & lube products

Brake Kleen, a toothbrush, a cheap bore brush and Mobil one every 500 rounds is all that's needed for a great running gun. The automotive industry has spent a lot of money researching lubricants and it costs a fraction of the price, if it doesn't say "gun" on it.

Do NOT use Frog Lube!!!

My go to cleaning products are Hoppes9, g96 and Balistoil. I like them all equally, they all work well and are easy to get if in a pinch. I use a bit of high temp bearing grease on the slide rails of my pistols.

You are correct, the additives and detergents in modern automotive lubricants and cleaners can cause serious health problems when absorbed thru bare skin. The difference in price is not worth the risk in my opinion.

Where I used to weld, if someone used brake cleaner in the shop, you could smell it being burnt in the air for an hour. I would make them use it outside. If you weld on brake cleaner that is still on the steel, it can kill you. Not something to play around with regularly.

That's true for the chlorinated brake cleaner. I am not sure if it applies to non-chlorinated brake cleaner as well.
