What's better than a 10/22?

Modded out Honda Civic's (on nitrous) have won alot of street races and alot of bets...
Oh don't get me wrong; I do think a well-modded 10/22 is an excellent rifle, just not for the price, and it's just not really a Ruger 10/22 by the time the modifications are complete.

To translate; it would be taking a stock Honda Civic, then putting in a BMW straight-six engine (new bolt,) Porsche transmission (trigger assembly,) Ferrari suspension (new barrel,) settled in a gorgeous Aston-Martin body (Boyd's stock.)

What you get is a really nice gun, but it's not the rifle the manufacturer sold, nor does it handle quite like the value of what you put into it. The stock Ruger is overpriced for what it can do, and the mods, while nice, don't handle as nicely as an equivalent value stock rifle from a better manufacturer.

In my opinion, there is no better semi auto .22, than the 10-22 I have 2 of them (so far). One is none stock synthetic, blued. The other is a highly modded "ultimate". They both shoot well. The bone stock is a 2011 model (I believe) and it is jut as much fun, and almost as accurate as my modded one with dlask receiver and barrel, as well as a wack load of internal and other goodies. It's also way less ammo picky, as far as cycling goes. It's been 99% over the course of the 5,000 rounds I have put through it.

Would definitely recconend the 10/22 to EVERYONE Looking for a good semi auto.

This is an old thread... so the OP has probably checked out a long time ago... his original question was about alternative "out-of-the-box" choices... I am a 10/22 fan... but I have never purchased one without fully intending to modify the crap out of it... for a number of years I just build 10/22 variants with complete aftermarket parts... starting with an aftermarket receiver... so while it may be "10/22-like" it is not a 10/22... But I am very thankful for the commitment Ruger made to manufacturing and promoting the 10/22.

An honest man. Not so rare face to face, but cyber-speak? Well put.
I cannot deny the "flush mount/box mag' innovation (rotary magazine/semi .22). Fantastic. I cannot deny the "popularity" of the platform with intent of "making" something of it. Valid, and fair. No doubt, a huge market too.

There is a weird notion that prevails still...I want the best bang for my buck. I do not wish to buy a car/gun with intents of swapping out bits so I can race/customize. I bought the car so I could actually get somewhere. The rifle so I could hit stuff with. I considered cash out vs. what I drove/shot away from the store. I "test drove" a few models...I still do (ever changing population of .22's current "float" at about a dozen). (Car analogy ends here...lol I have never had a dozen cars to choose from)

I will never "own" another 10/22, nor are they tolerated on the premises.

I used to brag about "I adore my 64" catch phrase...honestly? They are more expensive than a marlin 795, or a Remington 597.

Again, if you wish to buy a semi .22 to "supe up" can't deny the 10/22. Nothing better, unless you build your own bits. I understand there's a market for it.

If you wanna buy a new semi to take home, clean n' shoot? Hit what your aiming at? Have some $'s left for ammo? Anything is better than a 10/22 in my limited experience.

Im a little late on this one but marlin xt and marlin 795
both great shooters accurate out of the box
and no mods needed ,just add glass.
oh ps can get both for less than one 10/22 that wont be as accurate
as eiether without mods.

Check out Remington or Marlin, if you absolutely need to stay semi-automatic. If you can go bolt- nothing can beat a Savage bolt action rimfire. (Ok, maybe something else can:p)
