What's CQB in Service Rifle Comp?

There is no safety issue with a properly done transition drill....the weapon is placed on safe prior to the transition.I incorporate them, into all my matches, but I add that a transition will be only done with an empty rifle (just to satisfy the safety police). Like anything it is a drill, I would imagine that CFSAC or what ever it's called nowadays will have to catch up with the new shooting doctrine.
As for others making a fuiss about the safety aspects of a transition drill,it is just that a drill and must be practiced to become second nature. This idea of placing rifles on the ground,putting them in buckets is just plain asinine. (No offence but master your weapon , don't let it master you)

Reaper: Safety ON ? That might be worth looking into. I'm going to try a few of these transitions. Where's my son ? I'll get him to wear my STRIKE vest and pouches and practice the transitions while drawing secondary. I can just see safety police looking for a way to have that safety flick into the fire position.

I just got thru the grapevine that some of the CFSAC Matches involve rifle/pistol transition....should be interesting times!

The only real solution is to bring the proficiency up so the RO doesn't hve to assume people are retarded unless proven otherwise. Transition drill is not rocket science, safety on and muzzle to the ground......the rifle won't shoot unless the idiot behind it pulls the trigger. And no one shoot be pulling the trigger since your shooting hand is holding the pistol. People just need to be shown how it is properly done.

You can safely do transition drills from c-7/c-8 to the hp or sig on CF ranges. I've done it on the UOI Gagetown and taught it back here. Nothing in 381 says you can't (or our RSOs here). You do need safety selector police but it is and can be done safe. A piece of tubular nylon to lengthen the issue sling actually works better than any fancy sling out there, gets the primary weapon out of the way and not pointing at feet or your buddy. Done it lots of times with "fun police" watching and it was a sucess. I'd only recommend to experianced pers however.

I've been practicing some of the suggested transition drills in my basement. Still working on it and I'm most open to suggestions. I'm thanking all of you in advance. Sorry for being such a safety nut.... 
When I was trained on how to do it, it was done progressivly, after all of us were very efficient with the cqb quick aim shooting with the C8 and HP. If it is enforced from the start that the weapon is always on safe until the threat is assesed and you are going to fire, more advaned drills like transitions are safer. Safety is a key factor and it does not have to impede training at all.
any half brained zombie can be taught a transition drill within about 45min...
Remember to attempt to place the primary on safe - but odds are if its gone click - your not going to be able.
Roll primary inboard with support hand - primary goes to the secondary weapon.
BigRed and I taught this to numerous Iraqi's that I could stand down range of them while they did it...
Inside 25m - IMMEDIATELY go to pistol, and quite frankly even out to 50m your better off getting a gun into the fight unless you can get immediate cover

Is that a Safariland holster that you have modified to ride higher?
I'd like to do the same I think as I find them too low and if they are higher they would still not intefere with a vest. I have an Uncle Mikes Pro3 kicking around that I could afford to chop and test it out on.

Hungry you and I touched on this in Calgary. I agree 110% safety is paramount on ranges, but I have to agree with Kevin B anyone can be trained to do PROPER transitions. Took me less than 5 minutes to learn this and be safe at it! Last thing I want to do is shoot someone else or myself. A properly slung one point sling (find a mat tech) can and will get out of the way when you need or desire to draw your pistol. Also if you are going to the pistol chances are your rifle can't fire, soooo..... I totally understand safety, but.....
Hey kevin can you send me some data on how you mod'd your 6004. Got a friend or 2 with them and would like to streamline them for them. Also LOL are we related? My wife saw your pic on one shot tactical and asked me when I used a pistol overseas. Showed this pic above to my buddy and even he asked me how I mod'd my 6004, had to tell him it was not me.

Its pretty easy - I just chopped the leg shroud in a design that allows me more motion (or comfortable motion) when its run that high. I think Darren or Jamie posted a blubs on it here somewhere.
