There is no safety issue with a properly done transition drill....the weapon is placed on safe prior to the transition.I incorporate them, into all my matches, but I add that a transition will be only done with an empty rifle (just to satisfy the safety police). Like anything it is a drill, I would imagine that CFSAC or what ever it's called nowadays will have to catch up with the new shooting doctrine.
As for others making a fuiss about the safety aspects of a transition drill,it is just that a drill and must be practiced to become second nature. This idea of placing rifles on the ground,putting them in buckets is just plain asinine. (No offence but master your weapon , don't let it master you)
