My SKS's, milsurps, and target rifles are staying home this year. Too much weight and not much practical value. Regarding the later, I simply don't have much, if any, real long-range shooting opportunities, so big scopes on heavy rifles are not needed. What I am bringing, depending on the day, are:
Dry weather;
**For thick bush:
--> Sako 85 Bavarian Carbine in 30-06; 20 inch barrel and the sweet factory iron sights (Hornady 180 gr SST, Winchester 168 gr Ballistic Silivertips).
**For open bush:
--> Custom Mauser 98 lightweight sporter in 7x57; 23 inch barrel with a 2.5x fixed power scope (Prvi factory 173 grain SP).
Wet weather;
**For thick bush:
--> Remington 870 12ga Marine Magnum; 18 inch cyl barrel with bead sight (2-3/4 Challenger 1-1/8 oz rifled slugs).
**For open bush:
--> Remington 870 12ga Marine Magnum; well oiled 23 inch rifled barrel with cantilever mounted 2-17x32 scope (385 grain Remington Accutip sabot slugs).
