I've seen a few shotguns with Fonex stocks (instead of Walnut or synthetic). Is it as bad as it sounds? lol.

What exactly is fonex? I have never handled one, only seen images. If I had to guess, I'd say synthetic core with a 1/16 to 1/8 layer of wood laminate on top of it?

Cheers!

I believe its just a plain walnut stock that has is covered in a film to enhance the look making it appear to be a higher quality walnut.

I’m pretty sure its the same idea as the Beretta Xtra finish.

At least it gives me an idea of what types of finishes other companies are making. Thanks.

There seems to be 2 types, but all seem to agree that there is some walnut (albeit, pretty plain one) beneath.

A little research brought me to a gun shop in the UK. The Armsan Bronze deluxe shotgun features a fonex stock and fore end. The shop describes it as this Durable Synthetic Stock Finished with a Walnut Effect. I suspect it is a walnut pattern molded into the synthetic stock. Armsan's web page calls it "Walnut Laminate" that could mean any number of things. They do look good. How durable? Who knows.

That looks like the same stuff as my wifes A400 Beretta. Beretta calls it some kind of a wood stock that is "infused" to give the appearance of being highly figured but it's not the same as the product they call "Xtra Wood". If memory serves thats a wrap much like a camo wrap only its figured looking wood grain finish.

That looks like my A400 as well. I think I read a number of years ago that beretta injected dye to bring out the grain or maybe I'm misremembering.

Ah oh well, after several months of looking at it and not pulling the trigger on it, that Armsan Bronze 20ga semi-auto just dissappeared from TradeEx! The dream is gone lol. If anyone in here did pick it up, please report back. It looked like a fun little 20ga for grouse ;-)

Cheers,

David
