I made several loads using 150 and 160 grain bullets and it consistantly shoots with a flyer. The first shot is good and second shot is one inch away and the third shot is in the first hole. This pattern is consistant with the two bullet weights and using 4 different powders. Why is it always that the second shot does not shoot where it is suppose to?

It could be one thing or a combination of things. The first check to make is barrel and forend, free floating or touching? How fast are you shooting? Try letting the barrel cool right off between shots, say one shot every 10 min. Only make one change at a time so you can narrow down the problem. So many things as well as the mistake the shooter is making, ie. trigger control. It may also be the rifle isn`t capable of better than a 1 in. group. What is the make and model you have?

Track - you didn't say what type of rifle. If it's a bolt or a semiauto, then try bending a business or playing card a bit and then slip it between the barrel and the forestock. It should be able to go all the way back to the breech end without significant obstruction. If there is a place where the barrel and stock are almost touching, your barrel can heat up, expand a bit and start pressing against the wood. That changes the way the barrel vibrates, throwing off the aim.
If this could be your problem, consider having a gunsmith free-float the barrel. It's not that expensive and does not change the appearance.
This could also be a shooter issue. You are expecting the second one to be out, and it is. One inch is not really a flyer. Try shooting a combined group as well (a bunch of 3 shot groups over the same master target) and see what is going on with all of your shots. You might find that your rifle is grouping a particular size, and the flier is just part of the normal spread.
Sorry for wasting your time guys, the gun experienced what a hack-saw can do to steel and wood. The rifle was gifted to me from an old guy/neighbour a few years ago and I begrudingly accepted it. Anyway, I found out information why the firearm was throwing out flyers................. tight action screws can play havic on accuracy.
