What's in that can?

I'll have a look at my last batch of x54r from Canam, yours might be 2011 production from factory 61. Looks real familiar to me, treat it as corrosive unless you do the nail test and find out for sure if it's non corrosive.

This my guess, corrosive or not my mosin gets the same traetment anyway. I don't think that the chinese were marking their ammo cans in english in 1961... canam sells them by 1000 rds, this can would be a half crate?

Could be.

I've never seen a 55 year old can that clean and shiny.

Its 2011 Chinese machinegun ammo. Brought in by Canada ammo in 1000rd crates. Originally advertised as noncorrosive, and priced accordingly. However when people started reporting corrosion after shooting it, canam being a great company that stands behind its products lowered its price to corrosive levels. I stocked up with few crates and shot may be 800 rds of it by now. this is how it is designed to shoot out of various Chinese made MG's and its capabilities listed in the crate sticker

Accuracy wise its what it is
Some lots shoot better some not. At first I had no luck with accuracy, but after some time I figured where to hold for this brand of ammo and my groups improved.
This is one of the groups I shot from my mosin with irons. I guess its good enough for my plinking.
