how is the mag tube attached without the barrel band? Just curious. Is it a dovetail into the bottom of the upper barrel and covered with the cap?

It is attached with a stud off the barrel that fits into the tube end cap with a retaining screw to hold it in place. The other end just fits into the reciever. The end cap on the forestock is also secured with 2 screws that go into another piece affixed to the barrel. If you are really interested I can disassemble it and post some pictures.
