Hello,

I was just in preliminary discussions with another Nut about a possible trade, and need some unbiased opinions. I of course think this thing is immensely valuable and rare, the other guy finds them under cabbages (I have seen one fished out of the Bow River once, though I don't know if it was restricted).

Here is a fairly nice, very low mileage Smith & Wesson 66-2. It is stock except for the "shooting grips" on it, some generic Pachmayrs. The S&W original oversized hardwood is in the factory box.

I've seen one sold, by Armco a few years ago. This one was my own discovery, I measured the barrel, got it verified, took pictures of me measuring the barrel, waited ... and hey presto! A restricted revolver. The barrel is only a tiny bit over 105mm, but any amount is rounded up... so 106mm is on the registration certificate.

This is as close to prohibited as you can own and buy without a time machine if you're under 40. The target hammer and trigger are slick, the rock solid lockup and pleasing "click" of early carry up in both double and single action are reminders of much better days at Smith & Wesson. With Federal midrange match .38 Special wadcutters, you have no excuses. If you can't make that one, slightly ragged hole offhand at 7 meters, you need to practice. And practice with this revolver will be meaningful.

OK, enough talk: some mediocre pictures (sorry, I'll try again in daylight), and then some opinions, please!

Thank you, Gents! And thanks to all who sent offers, I'll reply individually as well.

I've called off my deal.

I understand that S&W has re-issued the 66, with MIM parts, the infernal lock, and a "two piece barrel" (???) -- with an SRP of $849 US -- so this one is clearly a keeper. I apologize to all, but it's going back into the safe to stay. It's just too hard to find anything near as nice, and the $1000 I've been offered so far won't buy another one since there are very few of these around. Hopefully our firearms laws will revert to sanity and you can all own a proper, solid stainless 4" model 66 like this one some day.

I wouldn't hold your breath on that one - but if you do, please give me the combo to your safe so I can get that fine wheelgun when you pass out.

Got a 66-2 six inch barrel with a wide smooth target trigger and a wide target hammer. What is it worth?
Looking to post with others on EE Friday.

Just put this in your other thread...

There's one on the EE right now for $650.

It's been there since last night and it's still not sold so I guess it's not considered a bargain??
