I have a Leupold Vari-XIII 6.5X20. Been used only a handful of times target shooting. Been in safe for way too long. Looking at letting it go, but need more info on value. Have the origonal box and foam. I picked it up used for cheep from a friend. My shooting coach said (back before 1992) it was a $750 dollar valued item. Not too sure if it would appreciate or depreciate.

Added Butler Creek cover gards. Two pics included here, couldn't get my camara to operate for a close up. Anyone wanna give their two cents? Muchly appreciated!

older vari-x III's are comparable to the vxII now adays, or so i seem to read.

a 6.5-20 seems to fetch in and around the $500.00 mark, if nothing else for
the fact that they're guaranteed for life, original owner or not.

i sold my 6.5-20 for $500 ish a year or so ago, with standard turrets and bc covers.

i've never seen them last long on the EE when they go up.
 
I've run into some old Leupold scopes that actually had better optics than the new ones. The difference though is the feature set. Side parallax is a very desired feature. The old ones don't have this.
 
Thanks guys for all of your notes. Over this last couple days I was pondering what to do. Still not too sure if I should let it go. Someday down the road I may wish to target rifle shoot again. It's also nice to know the price range I can look at.

Reticle

You forgot to mention what reticle your scope has. I noticed non-target shooters have a preference for the fine duplex or standard duplex and shy away from the target dot. The target dot is much harder to use if the gun will be hunted with. I'm not saying it can't be done it's just harder to use.

You are so right, I put my new VX-II 6-18X with a target dot on a crow that settled close by, could not even attempt to pick a spot on it to end it's west nile spreading days. Not to good for hunting, but again, that is not what they are meant to do.
 
I'm not too sure what the differance is between fine duplex and standard duplecx. This appears to have crosshairs as its recticle. Once focased, its very nice for silhouette - or at least thats what I remember 12 years ago shooting .22 silhouette competitions. Never thought of using it for hunting. It fit very nice on my Anschutz target .22rf.
