so this may have come up in the past but just for the fun of i i would like to know from everybody what is more important to you? nice looks in a gun or good quality (i include accuracy, price, and all that good technical stuff in with quality).

ill start it off with saying that its about 60% looks and 40% quality for me

"...my Glocks..." You find the factory grip a bit slippery? Only ever played with one Glock. Though it was slippery. Pachmayr does make the slip on thingy thought. Just curious. Have an Inglis BHP that just works.
I did fail to mention the reliability requirement. Doesn't occur to me. Mind you, good ammo is also a requirement. My Colt .45 has only given me problems with improperly loaded ammo. Mine. DOH!

I find the grip just fine. Though I have all gen 3\3.5 Glocks with finger grooves. A tad slippery but barring any serious lubricant I don't see myself dropping it. BHP is a great design, I would like to own an Inglis with a shoulder stock and some history one day.

I would look for quality in a very accurate gun. I have never bought anything new, but I won't buy junk because the price is low. I would sooner buy a #1 quality used than second rate new. You have to have the money in the bank, be patient and ready to buy if quality (not a deal) comes along

The gun that allows me to shoot the best and is reliable trumps looks.

I ended up selling a beautiful Black T'd Cylinder & Slide custom Hi-power when I discovered that in my hands, stock plastic pistols could outshoot it.

I'm now in that situation with 3 HKP7M8's (2 chromed) when I recently discovered that the HK P2000 with the small grip insert shoots better for me than the more attractive...especially chromed... P7M8's.

Looks are irrelevant.

1. reliability
2. accuracy (in my hands, not just intrinsic accuracy...P7's are likely more intrinsically accurate than P2000, my BHP was intrinsically more accurate than the P99 that beat it).
3. Size/concealment potential
4. ease of cleaning and maintenance
5. availability of parts

Above are the 5 things that defines my 'perfect gun'.

Guns were created as tools for particular purposes, and as with most tools, some are taken to a level of being pieces of art...

There are good or great quality tools and there are pretty tools (that may still be great for their intended purpose).

Function means more than looks to me.

1. it has to be 100% reliable

2. it has to be safe to handle

3. it has to be reasonably accurate

4. it has to have good stopping power

5. the ammo has to be readibly available. no use having a gun that you can't find ammo for

6. availablility of parts and accesories

7. it has to be ergonomic and all the controls within reach

my choice is a 1911 .45 ACP

1-Availability of repacement parts.

2-Reliability.

3-Precision.

4-Availability of ammunitions.

5-Reputation of the brand.

6-Fair price.

7-Look.

just to clear things up for some.

i hear some people saying that concealment is a big factor for some i live about 3 to 4 hours south of toronto and were not aloud to carry concealed weapons. so i was wondering are you a cop of some sort or something like that or do you live in the states, or are you just saying that just because you would like to be able to if you had to, say if the zombies ever come lol:D.
the other thing i wanted to specify is that by quality i mean that the gun isn't a cheap piece of garbage but maybe a top end piece of machinery so would you take this top end piece of machinery or would you take a gun that looks good but still performs fairly well.
i dont yet own a pistol but wenever i look at one that looks cool say the taurus raging bull(my computer background by the way) i HAVE to say to myself man that is one bad a$$ lookin thing i would love to own it even if it is expensive or hard to clean or get parts for.(how are these guns anyway any owners out there?)
