The 7.62x39??
I see alot of these guns for sale in Aus an i read alot about them on o/s forums.
So i thought id ask.. whats so good aboit them?
Here in Aus its under length as a deer cartridge..

Cheers

They're in the same class as 30-30, but the surplus is plentiful and cheap up here. You can buy a rifle chambered in it for about $175.00 and it's actually a quality built gun.

its a good round. but there are many better choices. some of them are 223/5.56 and 308. for range plinking its the best in its class, but for hunting its not the best.

Surplus Russian/Chinese SKS: $175

Surplus 1200 round crates of ammo: $225 ($0.20 per shot)

Personally I bought a Baikal IZH-18mh in 7.62x39 to take advantage of surplus ammo. $20 is an afternoon of center fire plinking with that thing.

In alberta it is a legal round. It is cheap to shoot even though I do not use any military surplus crap. You can shoot a 125 gr 311 dia bullet at about 2600 and it works well on deer and no recoil.

I sure would like a quality bolt action for a back yard plinker. Saw a CZ at a gun show, kicking my own hiney for not buying it at the time!
