Ordered a Russian PK-AS sight from the U.S. and a standard ak side rail. Had my local gunsmith grind the rail down to fit and then drill and tap it to the side. Now I have a true military quality scope (it's great! It has a black circle and dot and a red dot if I need it) and a rock solid - return to zero every time - mount. I have taken it off to clean it several times and it returns to zero as it was designed. Total set up cost me about $300 CDN with gunsmithing....yes you can still use the original sights. Unfortunately because of the design of the sling mounts I can't use the folder, which I don't really like anyway...

folder folds to the right ...don't understand how you can't use the rear folder sling mount
based on your pictures.

The sling mount blocks the removal of the scope - it slides off only to the rear...the price you pay to get a true return to zero....and easy cleaning..

I've researched every sighting option out there...I know this one works...there no tools needed when the time comes to clean the rifle and it does return to zero every time. I'm just putting it up here as an option for people. If they want an excellent tactical sight the PK-AS is one of the best available IMHO. Do a net search on it. A similar U.S. version of similar quality would cost at least $500 U.S. I actualy couldn't find a western scope that combined a black and red dot system......go figure...but I like it. The thing I like the most about it is that all windage and elevation adjustments are done on the body of the scope...i.e very robust...no internal gears to break. It offers rapid target aquisition and doesn't affect the balance of the rifle...

Looking at the mount, no pins are blocked so why would you remove the scope to "Clean" your rifle :confused:

Also I had a QD side mount AK mount on a SKS A very good one, it wasn't return to zero, was return to somewhat zero.

So you researched every sighting system out there, man must have took you over 5 years......:confused:
 
I’m not arguing it doesn’t work …. The VZ-58 “Pi” was designed with a side mount for that exact purpose.
But there are other options without taping and drilling. So are we talking about the red dot or the mount?

The dust cover doesn't quite clear the scope when removed - you have to remove it to clean the rife..

I've had no return to zero problems with mine....it is VERY tight to get off and on though...

I've researched every sighting system for the VZ-58:p - that took about 5 seconds...there are only a few....

I agree there are other options out there this one is one of them...just wanted to show it off....

So like MPI said the Elcan, which is a crappy design. I know, I had a few Elcans break at the base.

Did you even check out OKO (CZ company ) 2 mounts they have for the VZ58 ( which doesn't require removing the scope everything you clean ) Theres probley 100's of mounts out there for this gun and we dont know about.

Ok???? Is this type of negativity that I should expect on this board or is RobertMcC just the resident crank??? All I'm saying is it works for me...and is (or appears to be from my personal experience and the info I could find about it) a good scope/mount combintion for the vz-58...:confused: :confused: :confused:

Well im just saying there are ALOT of other mount you probley never thought of that doesn't require you the remove your mount every time you want to clean your gun. After time, it wont be as good and return to zero wont be close.

All mounts that I've seen so far have to be removed eventually in order to clean the VZ-58 properly. Mounts on top of the gas tube or replacing the rear sight or like Clobb has. If you have a new mount that doesnt need to be removed and we're not aware of it, by all means share it with us :)

Yes it certinly does - you have to alter your cheekweld somewhat but it works just fine. For the amount I am able to shoot the piece...about once a month.... I doubt the mount will ever get loose. It's also tension adjustable just for that eventuality. Everyone who has shot it (including my black rifle resistant father) has thought the set up, despite it's ugly duck appearance, was great!

One problem I hatted about this style mount when I had one on my SKS was it was awfull high.
