It was made very cheaply, and was air dropped by the US to feed a coup.

What is this gun called? I remember that it was quite the collectors item in the US.

Has anyone ever seen any accurate information about these pistols ever being actually supplied in quantity to any resistance group?

Nowadays, they airdrop these. Even cheaper.

There was one variety made during the Vietnam era, IIRC they called it the "deer slayer" or something like that. Might be the one you are referring to.

According to my understanding, about 2Million were made but never dropped in France in WWII for one reason or another. They were subsequently ordered to be destroyed and most were.

This is why they are so rare and if you can find one, you have a real collector gun.

The production run took less than 2 months. GM (as any auto manufacturer would be) was certainly equipped for fabrication of this sort of pressed, crimped, spot welded, diecast product. LB made just short of a million No.4s in 4 years, in comparison.
There was a batch sold by Century in Canada years ago. While the price here has been rising, they are worth much more in the US. Read a test report a while back. At very close range shot well enough, recoil was noticeable.
They seemed like a good idea to someone at the time. When it came right down to it, they weren't really all that useful.

Bought One At An Auction Several Years Ago For $200. Cute Little Gun And Worth More Than Most Of My Good Guns. I Was Told They Fall Apart After Ten Shots, Might Try One Shot!!!
