What's that smell?

If you want to try some better ammo without buying a brick, I suggest contacting Asmir at Tesro. He’s in Ottawa and offers different levels of sampler packs with various brands and price levels. Get to try all the flavours

It's not a bad idea, although I'd still have to get a brick - the sampler packs come with 10 boxes each.

Also, given the run of the mill rifle I use, I'm not sold on the necessity to test a large variety of ammo. It looks like Eley Club or Sport will let me reliably shoot .75" @ 50 yards.

On the lighter side; spray a wee bit of G96 on a your mustache, will provide a more pleasant smelling afternoon.

Great point, and good advice on seasoning the barrel with Eley, and only using that ammo in-season. It's the CCI flyers that are driving me to find more consistent ammo. As you point out about a bad hit on game, I never want to get into that situation.

As an aside: I had a little debate with a (non-hunting) friend. He was saying how he felt that hunters have a larger moral issue than people who only buy their meat in a store. Honestly, I thought he was off his rocker on that one. First of all, he's only outsourcing the moral responsibility one takes on when eating meat. Secondly, I don't understand how someone can discount the conditions livestock experience when being raised on an industrial scale. And I'm willing to bet the vast majority of store bought meat is raised using industrial practices.

Personally, I buy meat at the store too. But I don't have any illusions about that - if I am eating meat, an animal had to give its life. Period.

Find a new friend. Sounds like a goofball to me.

In some ways, totally true. But you know, we all come as a package. I tend to think that we all have a little bit of a goofball (or downright idiot) aspect.

That said, it's true that at some point, some people are just more idiotic than they are not. And it's "hasta la vista" to them.

Eley primer smell has been reported by some occupants of cars in which air bags have deployed.

With regard to the distinct scent, you have to hand it to Eley to remain abreast of shooter needs. Word has it that soon Eley will have scented ammos for those with aversion to Eley primer.

In addition to new ammo fragrances, word is there's an ammo in the works for those who have difficulty shooting with accuracy and precision.

You have a wicked sense of humor. Nicely done :)
