Whats the best all around golf club?

put = putt

as a grade 4 student in around 1961 back in Sask, I found a golf club at the local garbage dump, no idea what iron it was, but it did me fine for a few years. We lived right beside a Golf Coarse at the time. I got free balls & tee's all the time.

Best reply yet, lol

Not enough bounce to use in the sand, I would use a gap wedge of some sort. I could probably come close to breaking 90 with a gap wedge and putter. If no sand an 8 iron and putter could do it for sure.

not true... every club has bounce when you open the face... I can hit sand shots with a five iron.

I find it's best to work your short game to the max to get decent scores.
The long drive should be taken to YOURpersonal best
consistently accurate level that is comfortable to you.
Practice... practice... practice.

Failing that, all I can suggest is a visit with the Captain.

The one thing I can tell you is you don't want to get a club that's too big. A big club that you cant swing properly will not get you any closer to the hole. Many new golfers get too big of a club and go out to the range and they are so scared of it they develope a hitch in there swing. Rather you should go to the pro shop and swing as many clubs as possible and find the one that suits you best. then go to the range and practice, pratice, practice. Try shooting from as many possitions as possible. Remember once you get out on the course you will not have your tee with you. A well placed shot with a smaller club will put you closer to the hole than spraying one off in the rough with a oversized driver.

For the few of you who do like golf. We have four Canadians who made the cut and Graham DeLaet (Sask) it T7 as of Fri.

Is there going to be bears on the course?

If you're playing Banff, a very valid question. Might even be one of the brown, long clawed variety. Not sure if there is a penalty stroke system for that. Grazing elk another hazard along with the sand traps and ponds. ;)
