What's the best bang for your buck Lever Action?

I have never owned a lever anything, but for some reason I find myself wanting one in .22. I'd want something decent, good fit and finish with nice wood. There seems to be alot of different manufacturers out there, so what's a decent piece for the price?

I was contemplating the same thing a few months ago and the only rifles I had in mind were Henry.

I'm thinking of getting one of these myself. With what I've been reading here and elsewhere the Marlin 39A, the Winchester 9422, and the Henry are all good choices. I'd look at a Browning BL-22 too. If it was made in Belgium.

I have a Henry Golden Boy and I love it.

It takes 22lr, 22l and 22s, eats any brand of ammo without a problem and looks beautiful to boot.

You can also get it in 22Magnum or 17HMR.

Only thing with the base model Henry is that they seem to have gone with a cheap plastic front band/sight combo. The sights seem to suck bad on the base model as well. The T model seems to be the bomb, but it's also quite a bit more money. I could care less about an octagonal barrel.
Marlin looks good, but it's pricey as well. Doug had a used browning that just sold in the EE I should have jumped on.......

I like my Winchester 9422 alot, and have recently been thinking about a Henry Golden Boy.

The 9422 isn't made anymore, and I think used prices are nearing $500.

Prices for the Golden Boy range from $450-$480 depending where you look.

I highly recomend A Browning Bl22.Much better built, than a henry, and a smooth 33 degree lever through.I would pick Marlin, Browning, Winchester, in that order, for a Quality gun.

The Henry frontier doesn't look too bad. I do like the browning though....

Browning have the shortest/quickest (At least I think they still are) cycle action which make fast shooting a lot of fun.

I'd also like to get one of those Russian CM-2 rifles....but that's for another day. They are $400 to $500 in the US.

I do not think the 9422 is available. I have a BL-22 and have shot the Henry. The Henry sure is slick working

Henry is the best. You will never have an issue with ammo. EVER. but after that i would say marlin

I have 3 lever actions in .22 and the Marlin Golden 39 A Mountie is by far the best. The far away second is the Henry, and Wichester 3rd.

the mountie feels like a rifle, not a piece of alloy with cheap wood.

May I politely suggest that it is the rapid "crack" of the inexpensive ammo that makes "fast shooting a lot of fun"? The shortest/quickest action is just an enabler; a means to an end if you will!

Ruger 96

I just found out that the Ruger 96 lever action is available in .22lr & 17HMR going for around $400. It may be another option to consider but I don't know anything about the quality, reliability, accuracy, etc.

I've had my 9422 for over 20 years... so I think it was a pretty good purchase! My father had is Marlin for over 40, so he's also doing well with that!
