What's the best bang for your buck Lever Action?

Over the years I have owned and used a number of lever action .22's.At present I own a Winchester Model 9422 that I purchased new in 1978.The rifle works great.

At one time I owned a Marlin 39 M. A nice rifle but for some reason I did not keep very long.

At one time I owned an Ithaca Model 72 (the Herry is the same rifle).I did not keep this rifle very long as I did not like the front sight.

A friend of mine use to have a Browning BL22 that I used from time to time.Great working little rifle.

One lever .22 that I would like to own is the now discontinued Ithaca Model 49R.

We are not talking looks we are talking best bang for the bucks, that leaves the BLR ,Win 9422,and Marlin.

Because with these three you can own one for your lifetime, pass it on to your Grandkids and it will appreciate in time.

If you don't have children and don't care about any of the above ,then a Henry is your best choice.

ithicagun model 72

I have an original ithacagun mdel 72, it is the gun the henry was made after and if the henry works as good as the original it is the one to buy.

How is the quality compared between the Ithaca & Henry? My friend has an Ithaca Model 49R and it's quality is not even close to my Winchester 9422.

My old '54 Marlin 39-A is the most accurate of any lever I've shot. Bang for the buck? Fill this one up with 21 shorts, just for the heck of it. 15 Long Rifles is nothing to sneeze at either. Great hunting gun too.

My pre-XTR 94-22-M is pretty accurate too, but the Marlin will shade it on centers at 50 yds.

Plastic??? On a lever gun? Not my cup of tea, or coffee. Henry can keep them. I'm doing just fine without one.

The Browning I have no experience with at all. Nice enough lookin little rifles, but from what I've read, the bolt retainer makes take-down a bit of a chore- a little wire spring thing-a-whatever...

Marlin all the way...

You won't regret it.

Thats the way I see it also, course I still plan on outshooting them all with my Rem Nylon 66.

Hope my grandson can tell the way a Win Mod 1890 ,and a MB 66 carry so well in the brush!

He will probably pick up the 1948 Marlin 39 and say too heavy ,and never fire it(his lose) hell truth be known as soon as I'm in the ground they will just sell them off!

So buy what you like now,but please yourself .

+ on the Marlin 39a Golden... I have one from '74, and it's great. It's got character, and it's great to load up a whole bunch for a new shooter and let them walk their shots, too.
