What's the best calober for shooting deer on the island

What's the best calbire for shooting the deer on vancouver island? I've always been partial to 30-06 but lots of people say .243 is the best.

I’ve never shot dear on the island, but I understand they are smaller than our prairie white tails and muleys. 30-06 will definitely work, but would be considered overkill by many people. From guys I’ve talked with they seem to prefer smaller calibers in the 6mm/243 range. 6.5 Creed has been very popular as well.

A 270, or 308 would be my choice.

They are deer use what you are comfortable with. I am sure at the end of the day or season the deer don't have get togethers around the fire debating which caliber hurt worse or killed them quicker or sounded scarier when it missed.
