What's the best combo gun under $1000?

16 gauge would be a beaut, actually. But that would be too dear for me right now.
 
geez. i've been looking for a larger calibre - 308, 30-06, 7x57r - and have not had any luck. tradex sent me a used sabatti with a broken trigger that i had to return (and am out shipping both ways as a result). i almost had a deal on a used baikal via ####### but the guy wouldn't ship. saw a used merkel drilling at epps only to find the old listing where they bought the gun at auction for half the price and weren't listing the fact that it had a cracked stock and hazy, knock-off optic. no luck man, no luck.

so, i start looking for new and the cz/brno's are nla, the valmet/tikka/finnclassis/marocchi's are nla. no idea if baikals are still available and whether they'll come to canada again. you can get a new f.a.i.r. for $2kish via bilozir but you have to pay a 50% deposit and wait six momths and the guy has an iffy rep so not that comfortable paying the $ and waiting well past my cc fraud deadlines. there's a guy in the usa selling new old stock finnclassics, but you are looking at $3k after exchange and import to a guy that google says closed his business several years ago.

so, i can't really help the op, but i do have a request to f.a.i.r. to see if they will sell direct.
 
i had a baikal 12ga 30-06 but for me it has to be rimmed cartridge so it is gone. good luck for those looking for the unicorn and what they will really do with it. it is the perfect tool for private warden and paocher in europe for a reason ...
