Whats the best copper removing method

CR-10 and JB pasrte are the 2 quickest ways. JB can be a bit messy, though.

WIPEOUT Is my favorite- just squirt it in and eave it, go do somethig else.:)

ammonia, in a hot barrel, leave a just fired cartridge in chamber to seal it (don't open bolt or seal is broke). fill to top from muzzle, carefully. wait a bit. brush, patch and then make sure all the ammonia is gone.
oh yeah and it is hard on finished.

I have left wipe-out sit overnight with a couple of bore mops, one in the guide and one in the muzzle to prevent evaporation, and STLL had deep indigo-colored
patches when I tried following up with Sweets.

I Know lots of guys that love the stuff and good for them, but I am personally not sold on wipe-out. I think it is because the foam turns to liquid after a while and just settles on the bottom of the bore.

JB bore paste, Sweet's 7.62 or CR-10. Those are the ones that have proven their worth over time. Friend of mine had a 308 M70 Winchester that was so badly copper-fouled that it would not stay on a 8½ x 11 sheet of paper at 50 meters. He tried every solvent at his disposal without success. We went afterr it with JB's, and after about 30 minutes of steady work we could see the copper disappear. A good cleanup with ordinary solvent and accuracy was back. Wipeout is OK but very slow. Can't speak for coppermelt. Regards, Eagleye.

If you have heavy fouling, you need to use it more than once.

I find when I want ot get down to bare metal I do it for a few hours, then patch and reapply, X2. Then overnight, patch. Reapply, go to work, come home, patch reapply.

ETC

Once it's pretty clean, one overnigther doews the job.:)

Some guys don't have the facilities to leave guns on a rest for a day or 2, I do, so it works for me.:)

Just got some Montana Xtreme 50 BMG Copper Solvent and man does this stuff have some ammonia kick. The 50 BMG makes Sweets smell like Chanel No. 5 :)

On a post somewhere on the net maybe Benchrest Central someone said the if you swab the bore with sweets and then add some Peroxide it makes like a foam almost shaving cream like substance. I am no chemist but tried it once and it does foam up. Don't know if that mixture is harmful but it is kind of neat.

If the above does not work I usually go to the chicken house and find a rooster. I then find my bone necklace and a put that on. I hold the rooster in both hands while wearing the bone necklace and do a strange dance while shaking the chicken vigorously . . . hard but not to hard. The object is to appease and entertain the dark and mysterious copper remover god so that he will grant you the power to get all the copper out of your barrel next time you clean it. If you use moly or danzac continue the dancing and shaking for at least five minutes extra. Be careful to not choke the chicken!

Also, do not use the same rooster in the same month you shake them up pretty bad and it takes awhile for them to come around. Don't kill a rooster or the copper remover god gets angry and you will be cursed.

For the bone necklace buy the best and cry once like when buying a BAT action.

Too much work for me. I figured the point was to make the process simpler... I just went back to Sweets and Butch's and the gun gets put away clean the first time.

Sweets AND Butch's - are you telling me that's a single application?? I use CR-10 and love the results, but when cleaning out an 88 year old 303 that couldn't put shots in a 10" circle, I spent huge amounts of time re-applying CR10.

Once I reached the point that it was not giving up much on the patches, I moved to Wipeout, and reapplied it as many times as needed. The amount that came out after the CR10 stopped working was incredible, but I'm not suggesting CR-10 doesn't work well.

Foaming bore cleaners aren't quick, but they are thorough. It really doesn't take much longer when dealing with a heavily fouled barrel, you just spend the time doing something much more fun than scrubbing the bore over and over - like fouling another barrel at the range.

I first tried wipe out and was amazed at the amount of fouling that came out. I agree that a major drawback is the time it takes. I then tried the wipeout accelerator first before appling wipe out and found it not only takes less time (30 - 40 mins.) it also removes allot more fouling.

So now I use the following after a 100+ round day.

1) Wipeout Acelerator soaked patch
2) Wipeout to fill the barrel..leave in 30 - 40 min.
3) 2- 3 dry patches to remove the wipeout
4) Hoppes # 9 to lube the zero copper fouling barrel and into the safe it goes until the next day.

I am very pleased with wipeout when used with the wipeout accelerator! True brush less cleaning.

I've never hear of wipout accelerator, sounds fantastic. :)

I saw some at the Regina Gunshow a few years back but the dealer wanted way too much for it. Never seen it since:confused:
My vote goes to Wipe-out, works great in all my rifles. There is a time issue when using it though.

Cheers!!

well i picked up some hoppes elite copper terminator last night to try and rid my bore of copper and holy crap i spent close to an hour and a half soaking it
and went through a whole pack of dry patches and i still havent gotten all the copper out i dont think my .303 was ever copper cleaned since it was built by Globe co in the 60's LOL

I have found wipeout is only so so without using the accelerator. I picked up a bottle at the Easter show in Calgary last spring. You only wet one patch of accelerator to run thru before the wipeout. At that rate I will go thru 1 bottle in 2....3 years? Well worth the cost.
