what's the best inexpensive tactical shotgun

From what I've seen and heard, the Dominion Arms Grizzly available at CanAmmo sounds like a pretty solid choice if you're on a budget. 870 clone IIRC, so you have a ton of aftermarket accessories to work with right out of the box. They come in a few different barrel lengths (shortest being 8.5") and have either tubular or magazine-fed receivers. Personally I'm waiting for this one to come back in-stock, as some people have reported feeding issues with the magazine-fed models.
Ya the swat guys use those. Pricey, but I want one.

It really depends what you want for options in regards to stock configuation , mag. length / cap. , barrel length , etc . If you just want a good dependable home defence ( riot ) style shotgun with a standard mag. length , then the Maverick 88 , or H and R Protector , shotguns are good value for the money......
I needed a disposable-I don't care about it- camp / canoe hiking gun- something to beat though the bush and not care about
I went with a cheapo 2 barrel set Mossberg 500, at the time it was $289.00 - I think they go for $329 now.
It has absolutely been flawless and I beat the heck out of it...
It comes with a 18.5" cylinder bore barrel and 28" with a rib (not sure the choke, I think its a modified ?) so it's more than a single use gun.
It's definitely a budget gun but it's from a known manufacturer with history and it works.
I've played with the Johnny-Come-Lately brands- sometimes they're good, sometimes not so much.
Pay your money and take your chances; it sucks when they suck...

Mossberg 590.
+1 on the tactical question. Mossberg 500/590, Winchester Defender, Norc and Dominion clones..the pump gun is fairly simple so I don't believe one needs tremendous quality to get good reliability.
A cheap pump with an 18" barrel and decent capacity = tactical in my book. Consider the old high standard riot gun..5 or 6 shots, wood furniture, no accessories and yet got the job done for years.
A great way to keep the price down on a tactical shotgun is not hang tons of high priced toys off it that you don't need anyway. Put the money into a better gun and skip the saddles and sling mounts, red dots, lasers and breaching muzzles..
Unless its a project gun for the tactical range..then go nuts!

Simple lol ...get a Mossberg M590A1 20" bbl 9-shot Battle Tank 
....NIB $675.00 is a STEAL I'd still buy one if they sold for $1,000.00 ANY DAY.
I've owned LOTS of Remington 870's ...Express, Express Deer, Express Super Magnum, Marine Magnum, Police, Tacticals, and Wingmaster.....All of them COMBINED don't add up to even half of my Mossberg M590A1 14" Ghost ring sight.
Dual extractors, stronger ejector, more reliable (had multiple jams in 870's) and Super accurate with adjustable Ghost Ring sights, all steel parts in A1 models, thick wall barrels, just a solid built tactical combat shotgun....for freaking $675 NIB ....jeez. My M590A1 is right up there with my Benelli M4 Super 90. Really.
Why waste money on a copy 870 grizzly when for an extra hundred or so, you can get a NIB M590A1 ???

Cheapest option for rock solid reliability is the Maverick 88. Under $250 out the door and will provide years of trouble free service. Better machining and finish than a $400 870 Express and very slim chances of ever getting a lemon. I say slim because its always possible but other than a shell stop that needed a little tweak I've never seen a bad one. And I've seen a lot of them. The 870? Not so much lol. Norincos are better than an express and come with a short barrel. They still have a decent number of lemons though. They're all serviceable but you'll pay more for the shoddy legacy of the once majestic 870.
