Rimfires tend to get a bad rap because their association with suicide specials. Before the center fire primer was invented, rim fires were the only cartridge game in town (and pin fires, but that's a different story...) S&W 44 Henry (rim fire), and any of the Remington, Colt, etc. conversions from percussion to rim fire are of excellent quality and every bit as reliable as a center fire gun. Biggest problem is getting the ammo. H&C still won't make a 44 rim fire or 41 long rim fire, despite me asking many times.
