Right now I am just into sport shooting and slowly getting into reloading but I want to try and find the cheapest way to make it go bang while being fairly accurate ( for 30-6, 45-70 just needs to ring a gong haha). the load I did for my first batch of 45-70 as 28 gr of IMR 4227 and 300 gr campro bullets which works pretty good but just wondering if anyone has a cheaper load.

For 30-06 im in between loads right now as I am switching from cast to campro bullets but I have a pound of imr 3031 that ill use for the first 200 ish rounds.

any help or advice would be much appreciated thanks in advance!

You could look into bullet casting, more investment in tooling etc. but if you can source out a reasonable supply of lead and alloying material it will eventually pay for itself. A good source of lead is stained window glass shops, advertise for lead only wheel weights, many have abundant supplies squirrelled away. Some inexpensive and decent casting equipment comes from Lee Precision, molds, melters etc. One of my favourite molds for the 45/70 is the Lee 405gr. hollow base mold, combined with 32gr. of IMR 4198 pleasant to shoot and cheap.

Cheapest way to load as a new to reloading shooter is to really hunt for deals on components, especially powder and primers. Finding deals on the used market or anywhere you can find it is helpful, buy in bulk if there’s a deal or a sale.

Campro’s are relatively cheap and cast lead can be a good bang for your buck, especially if you are the one casting.

One can hope that components will come back down in price or supply will outpace demand but I doubt it to be honest.

If you can find it, Unique and Red Dot work great in my 45-70. A lot less weight of powder vs 28 gr of IMR4227 or whatever of IMR 3031 or RE7
