Call me lazy but why choose the tougher route when you can get pretty much the same thing with less of a hassle?

I doubt the already restricted AR will change status just because more or less people own them.. so it wont make a difference if you choose a different rifle.

Well it was restricted instead of prohibited more or less because so many people owned one.

Because they were used in competition, they were the only rifle of the genre not prohibited.
The non-restricted black rifles appeared after the prohibition lists were formalized.
 
i can sympathize with the OP but i hate it! i hate the fact that my gov't made it so that i cannot use any rifle that i want on my land. i would own hoards of AR's if i actually could use them as i would want to. i only goto the range for a controlled environment to sight my rifles in, otherwise i rarely step foot on one. therefore, i cannot justify actually owning an AR, which is exactly what the b******s in ottawa wanted. d*** them.

They were originally prohibited but the idiot politicians were reminded by our shooting orginizations that our right to AR'S is confirmed by the Queen in our constitution. The right for ALL Kanadians to compete for the Queens Medal with our service rifle - which now happens to be the AR.
So the idiots restricted AR's rather than prohibiting them.

Because they were "commonly" use din competition. Again, because of numbers.
 
No one mentioned 100% parts compatibility. I love the fact that you can take any part from one AR and try it on 30 different AR's and the part will fit. Try that with an SKS.

It's the same reason I like Glocks. :) Modular baby.

Because that is EXACTLY what the government want you to do, it wants to make operating certain firearms inconvenient - to discourage you from owning those particular firearms.

If you are not buying a restricted because it is a restricted, you are falling right into the trap set by the politicians who do not want you to own certain firearms.

Instead, you should poke these politicians in their eyes by buying more restricted so their objective will not be achieved.

I guess I dont mind falling into their "trap" just as long as I have plenty of other equally fun toys to choose from outside the trap... now if they started restricting all our rifles, then I might get a bit upset and purchase them outa spite but for now, i'll be swimming downstream with my rifle selection.

But I can help poke out their eyes with my growing pistol collection.. seing as I dont have much of a choice in that category :D
 
I consider AR to be recreational firearms, so locgical reasoning does not apply here. I you want one and have the money for it, go ahead and enjoy it.
 
Bit off topic... but was there not some US town (or many) that actually requires its citizens to own at least one firearm? IIRC, there is little to no crime at all in those areas.

There are more than a few of those in the US, keep in mind lots of them are fairly small, so everyone is either related or knows each other, so the crime is almost unheard of.
 
Whats the big deal about hunting rifles? I can go buy meat at the store where no animals were harmed.
