I'd like to get one before they change the rules and ban any new ar15 purchases. You never know with the liberals.

I love the look of the m16 a1, a2 rifles. Who doesn't love Vietnam firearms. I know my terminology is wrong. I am not well versed in the ar platform

What would be the cheapest rifle i could find already built that looks like that rifle. Carry handle, buttstock, 20 inch barrel with the handguard.?

I know of the norinco cq311 is available which is an option but I'd like to see what is available thats not expensive.

Can i get anything for $1200 or less. Don't care if its new or old. I am sure i can find whichever rifle thru a WTB ad

I'm not aware of any rifle currently offered in Canada that features the distinctive triangular handguards. You will have to find one on the second hand market, or buy something that has the other features and then swap out the handguards. Even the handguards themselves can be hard to find, though Brownells now manufactures replicas. In fact Brownells is replicating all the old rifles, complete, but I haven't heard of any making their way up here yet.

By far the easiest route to go would be to find a Colt SP1. This is the classic Colt Sporter rifle manufactured 1963-1982, right alongside all the Vietnam era M16, XM16E1 and M16A1 rifles. There were something like 140,000 made and lots found their way into Canada, and should fit within your $1200 budget. Next easiest option would be to find a Norinco 311 rifle and swap out all the furniture, if that hasn't been done already. That should be well under a thousand bucks.
