What's the concensus on the best .22 kit for M4s

Was it a lot cheaper before? Is the CMMG made in Canada? They are priced about the same right now.
cmmg is made in the states as well. On election night as soon as barry was elected, spikes upped the price well over double on their lowers. When called out on it they claimed it was a supplier snafu .

Is this the same for the CMMG kit?

The CMMG kit does not come with a gas tube plug so firing a couple .223 rounds at the end of your session is highly recommended.

I don't bother putting in the plug because it involves taking my handguard, removing gas tube, install plug, replace handguard. Spike's Tactical advises installing/uninstalling the kit sparingly. I couldn't be bothered to use it and I don't plan on buying a seperate upper just for .22. I use my ACOG TA01 and find that .22 and .223 have similar points of impact out to 50 yards; or at least close enough for me.

JP Enterprises makes an adjustable gas block (Alberta Tactical Rifle sells them) which you could close when shooting .22 and open back up when you shoot .223.

I thought it over and decided it wasn't worth buying an adjustable gas block since every time I go to the range I shoot .223 anyways. I'll shoot anywhere from 100-300 .22 rounds and then finish off with 50-100 .223 so it's a little easier on the wallet even though I reload.

I like the CMMG kits... But, also CMMG now has a dedicated .22lr upper for ~$370 USD... Perhaps a Canadian dealer can make some sweet magic happen :)

+1

I bought mine from Questar. As long as I keep it properly lubed up it works very well with those bulk Winchester packs of 22 you get at Walmart.

Unless you plug the gas tube or use a dedicated upper (with no gas tube) you need to finish off your range session with some .223 to clear out the gas tube.

What happens if you don't do this? What if you leave the .22 conversion in for a couple of weeks and only shoot .22? How many rounds does it take to clear the gas tube?

Take it from my experience... ALWAYS shoot a few boxes (might get away with 2) of .223 after using a CMMG/Spikes style conversion without capping the tube first.

I shot 400 rounds of .22 (150 cci, 250 dirty wildcat) without shooting .223 after (rifle range was closed...used the pistol range), and my gas tube was plugged pretty bad at the muzzle end... thankfully for a small nominal fee the boys at Alberta Tactical Rifle removed my front sight and installed a new gas tube and quad rail gas block.. much easier to remove....

Ill never make that mistake again! Serious pain in the a$$!

A dedicated 22 upper and a well broken in 50rd BD drum mag would be awesome!
