What's the consensus on the Type 81 SE rifles? Bent?

Hmmm, I’ve never been that interested in the LMGs honestly. Unless I replace the stock and get an 18.5” barrel chop, I find they’re just too long and clunky. But it’s interesting that they’re built better

Intriguing. What do you mean by cheek weld angle? Is the rear trunnion bent, or is it the problem with the actual shape of the wooden stock?

I was shown evidense back during the last shipment of Special Edition rifles that TI kindov has an under the table return policy and set of credentials for "bent" SE models. It was a pretty fair set of credentials considering my previous observations with the degree to which many of the early import guns were coming in bent.

The policy described a method of measurement and stated that deviation greater then 4mm would warrant an exchange or refund i believe. Of course if ur really worried about being stuck with a bent rifle id suggest confirming all of this with TI before ordering one.

I was kinda chapped at how my wood fitup is, but reading your guys replies I guess I'm lucky. It's straight and it runs and shoots true

I just bought several SE rifles and kept one that is straight. SE folders are much better than original folders. With first import folder I could have shoot from around corner. And folder are easy to check, just remove the bolt, fold t?he stock and look in the hole in receiver from behind.
P.s. there's also an issue with canted gas blocks and twisted stock, so yeah, ideally you want to handle the rifle!e before you buy or do like me.

Just got my hands on a brand new, unfired fixed stock SE and it is for sure bent. :(

The rifle appears to be quite well made and finished. Certainly is WAY better than the crap Norinco 84S I had years ago.

As I am not the original purchaser, I'd bet TI won't talk to me let alone take the rifle back for a new one. As long as it shoots reasonably well with the irons I will be satisfied. The silver lining being this will save me the money for trying to mount an optic.

I just got my SE fixed stock, new in the bag, doesn’t seem bent to me. I had an SA blonde fixed and an LMG this spring, I can confirm the overall build quality has taken a slight dive, but it is what it is. My upper hand gaurd on my SE has a bit of play and I’m sure it’ll rattle, not a huge deal. The finish certainly won’t age well compared to the blued but again, nothing I’ll lose sleep over. For the price of these rifles it’s about par to what I expect. Unlike my WK180-C it never jams or misfires.

Did you remove the bolt carrier and run a cleaning rod down the bore? That's the only way you will be able to see the bend.

My upper hand guard also has a bit of rattle. Personally I'd prefer the parkerized finish over blued. Blued is nowhere near as durable to rough handling ... hence why most military firearms are parked.

We have a 2nd Gun WK180 and have yet to experience any jams or misfires with it.

Sorry but what? A cleaning rod is a terrible way to check for straitness, unless your cleaning rod was manufactured by Stabila or something insane, the string method is the true method.

That’s nice, only took them a redesign.
