What's the coolest, weirdest, craziest thing youve seen or heard about while hunting?

I made the shot of a lifetime on a partridge a couple years ago and of course, no witness. I was in a very overgrown abandoned farm when one took flight to my left and came across my right side, snapped the safety off of my pump 12 and it happened so fast I didn't get to shoulder it but fired about 1/2 way up from my hip

The bird was just getting into trees as I fired and to my complete surprise I heard it tumble and hit the ground. Upon checking it I hit it with 1 pellet, in the head!

Something else strange is I shot my 2nd bear this year. This is now 2 bears, 2 years in a row, 1st evening of deer season for both! This years bear was limping and I found a very fresh .270 slug lodged in it's right shoulder. I also shot it with a .270

The orange hat story reminded me I was on stand for Coyote I wear a light grey toque moving my head only as I turn back to look forward the was a owl about 10 ft from me talons out was going to take my hat!

Found rabbit head in the middle of a trail l was on right after a fresh snowfall.Picked it up and it was still warm. With no tracks around l figure maybe a raven dropped it.

I've had several close encounters with owls too, incl this year, never really considered that they might be checking out my head gear.

I found a natural tombstone this year. It was crazy. About 3 feet high and four feet across about 8 inches thick. Looks like its been hand crafted by a stone worker. The craziest part is its standing straight up in the bush. You can see where the slab cracked off of a larger boulder and it fell and stood.

Next year im going to take a camera with me, should be able to find it again.

I got chased by a good sized buck a few years ago while walking to my treestand. When I seen he was going to catch me I quickly turned and fired, the arrow went just under his chest. He did a somersault and took off.

When our Border Collie was very young and not very big, I had her with me out hunting on my quad.
She would jog ahead of me for the most part of the day.
When she tired, up on the seat with me between me and the handlebars.
I had a piece of carpet there for her so she wouldn't slip.
Putting along an old road, past mid afternoon with my shadow in front of me, the
pooch was out front doing her thing.
I heard a whoop whoop whoop behind me and a big shadow coming over me.....wtf?
I turn and duck as a big owl was coming down quick and just cleared my head by a few
feet and heading for my dog.
I pound on the brakes, grab my..........Gary you listening?.......my model 88 and jam in
the mag and chamber a round while beading on the owl.
Dang thing had it's claws out just about to grab her.
I hollar her name and ready to pull the trigger.
The pup turned back at me, saw the owl and ducked to the side.
I have no idea why that owl quit at the last second.
I didn't know if I could hit it or not, but I figured if I pulled the trigger,
the bullet whizzing by and the blast would be enough.
Thankfully I didn't have to go that far.
I just couldn't bare the thought of the owl grabbing her and taking off to watch
my dog fall..........how far????
I kept her up on the seat for the rest of the ride...........pheeeeeeew.

Found a fresh deer liver in the middle of a dead end road late on emorning. Nobody around but a couple mushroom pickers. Washed it off and took it home for dinner.

wasn't actually hunting, (on the way to a favourite grouse hunting spot) driving along the highway, seen something up ahead coming down the side of the road..I was the only one on the road that morning (very early), and finally, the something came right by me, as I came to a stop...a red fox..with a large fresh snowshoe hare (in the white) hanging from its mouth.. he was just trotting down the white line on the side of the road..not a care in the world, proud as could be.. I thought it was soo funny at the time, and soo lucky to see!!!

Some guy shot a buck, packed it out and forgot it there for you lol

I was hunting out of a treestand when I heard a "click". Looked down, around, ready to take a shot but nothing came in. I looked sideways to my left and a large owl was eyeball to eyeball with me maybe 15 feet away on the next tree. I've had owls "hunt" me as I walked into the woods in the dark. They seem to come very close before maybe thinking that thing won't fit in my mouth.

Had a couple guys find a liver I had left...Only thing, is it was a bear liver....I laughed, they didn't...

Driving in an old van through a brush-infested old logging trail, heading to the afternoon moose spot.
A guy clutching a .22 runs across the trail, maybe 5 yards ahead of the van, stops two feet in the bush and "hides" behind a one-inch sapling facing us...

We stopped the van, rolled the window down and asked him if everything was OK. Thirty seconds later and more two attempts for an answer the guy blinks and responds.
Never seen more glazed eyes on a drunk in my life, only response we got from him was "you guys MNR?"...

What the heck would have he been up to??

Figured out later that he was part of a moose camp about 500m away, the guy was maybe in his late 50's.
Probably decided in a drunken stupor that he was going out with the .22 for some birds.

We stayed in the area for another few days hunting and never heard of anyone missing or any other funny business.

Not hunting, but last spring while trout fishing, I heard a lot of flapping and squeaking coming from a little ways upstream from me. I was heading that way to get to the next likely pool so I decided to investigate and observed one of the stranger events I've seen in the woods. A partrige had cornered a very large shrew against a stump and was pecking it to death. I wish I had brought a camera.
