Spot price closed today at USD$0.8195 per pound, that is likely at NY Commodity Exchange or Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

You'll have to call a base metal supplier. Spot price doesn't really reflect the actual price you pay. I believe that's the base price right at the gate of the mine. There's transportation, warehousing, profit margines, etc involved tha all work to drive the price up.
That's quite good for refined lead. A few months ago I bought a few hundred pounds from Metalex in Richmond. I don't remember what I paid, but it was more than 1$ a pound.

That might be the place mine came from. A buddy at work lives in Burnaby and got it from a place close by him for me.

A customer stopped in the other day & said he paid $1.00/lb for 4% antimony lead at Metalex last week. I think .80 cents would be a better price.

But if it has to be shipped
Last year I found some pure lead sheet for .65/lb
Sourcing a dwindling commodity can be a challenge. I think if more of us will cast, we can pool our order and buy 20 tons from a metal recycler (instead of them shipping out to China).

Seriously, we casters need to secure our long term supply of lead. I will be content with 1 ton of ingots in my garden shed.

I don't think that's an unreasonable number if you could get enough guys in an area to get together. I've got my ton sitting in my garage right now. The way I see it, the longer people wait to get their lifetime supply of suitable lead, the harder it's going to be to find it. I don't think ANY cars are coming with lead wheel weights anymore. My last stuff...a lot of it wheel weights, I got form a scrap yard for 25 cents/lb. At that price, I took it all. I think in total, I got 1100lbs this time. Another guy took a few hundred pounds, and I'm still going to be on the lookout for another gun nut who wants some as well.

Just find yourself a local metal recycler with a cable stripper, the old underground cable had a pure lead sheath on the outside. The last time I needed some I bought 2 bales from a place in Surrey BC for cash.
