What's the deal with glock mags? Generation 3,4,5 & Keltec Sub2000s

What's the deal with different generation Glock 9mm mags? Will an older Glock 17 mag fit into a new Gen 5 Glock 17? And what about the Keltec Sub2000 that takes Glock mags? Will all gen glock mags fit or would only the older gen mags work?

Can’t speak to the Keltec, but I’ve never experienced any issues between mags and the different gens of pistols, at least gen’s 3 thru 5...All my mags work across any of those gen’s.

That’s both OEM and Magpul versions.

Gen 4 and 5 have cutouts for the mag catch on either side of the mag body for the reversible mag catch feature, Gen 3’s just have a cutout on the one side as Gen 3 mag catches were not reversible. Dimensionally they all fit the same models through each generation.

I haven’t had enough experience to comment on Gen 1 and 2 Glocks or the mags.
