Whats the deal with the 10/22

I never saw myself buying a 10/22 I don't know why, it just never really, floated my boat. But thanks to the new G36 stock I'm going to come to the dark side and buy one...I do however also have a Remington 597 and Marlin 795, love them both, the Marlin is extremely accurate.

didn't like the norinco? :p

Yes I liked it, was very nice was shooting good and precise, but the jw14 is too long, I wanted something shorter with 25 rounds mags to have fun in the woods :p And something I will find parts forever for. Tomorrow I put a Bushnell TRS 25 red dot on it, my gf gift to me for my B-Day. :p And I have my Savage Mark II BTV and a Ruger Standard pistol(1973) rimfires to have fun at the range.

I have never shot one of these, but every thread about what 22 to get there is always over half say get the 10/22. What is so great bout the ruger? Just askin cuz i dont know, not to be an ass

When Ruger introduced the 10/22 , it immediately set the standard for economical, good accuracy and No1 reliability. They accomplished this i believe in the cheapo .22 semi market by that 8th wonder of the modern world, the 10shot rotary mag.

Magazine feed reliability is 90% a .22 semis reliability. This magazine outshone others for decades.
When I bought mine over 20 years ago I did so because a well know gun writer of the day tested a bunch of .22s and said when it comes to reliability, check in the dictionary and it will read; Reliability; see 10/22.
This sold it to me and thousands of rounds later i guess he wasn't lying.

There are many on here who slam them for being finicky and unreliable and unless Ruger has dropped the ball like Remington on low end firearm QA/QC, then i don't know of a better spent $275.00.

I'm surprised i haven't seen more Marlin shooters jump in here, with their claims to the current crown.
If I buy another .22 i'll try the Marlin or the Mossie and i'm sure they are as accurate or better than my 10/22 but I had the "Legend" for over 20 years and can't complain.:)

My friend has one that jams ALOT. Every mag, every ammo, not sure why. Must have been made on a friday afternoon.

I prefer my Marlin 7000 ( no longer made ). Dead-on accurate with the heavy barrel, reliable and it was fairly cheap.

Stock 10/22's are over-rated IMO.

Mine jams with anything other than the 10 round mags they came with or the Butler Creek 25 round mags. I am really happy with the Butler Creek mags though.

I will take the Marlin's micro groove barrel and accuracy over a magazines reliability any day, especially since there's no issues with the Marlin for feeding that I know of, and it will shoot anything pretty well, and some brands very well. Out of the box you won't have any complaints, except maybe the trigger.
Also, the 10-22 is sort of ugly, imho. :D
(unless you trick it out with a kit like the g36)

Ah yes,..... a Marlin man finally.:p The Marlins seem to be great shooters from what others posting here have been saying. Enough so that it's got me tempted into buying one for my next .22 semi. The reliablity of a magazine though IMHO is everything. Without it, the Rifle will soon find itself in the corner with nowhere to go, or at worst wrapped around a tree somewhere.

detail strip and clean it. It'll stop jamming.

This is just my $0.05 but I have owned several 10/22s. The older ones are more expensive than you might think because Ruger at least used to make them mainly out of metal. Now much of the firearm is plastic.
I have never seen a standard 10/22 in a wooden stock that was a good fit. Almost everyone that I have sen was actually loose in the stock. Everyone I have seen benefits in accuracy by going to a good synthetic stock.
There really seem to be 2 schools of thought.
One that the 10/22 is so wonderful that dozens of companies have made a fortune selling aftermarket products for the gun.
The other that the gun has so many deficiencies that you can make a fortune selling better than factory replacement parts.
Generally most agree that the magazine is the heart of the success storey.

10/22 + Timney Trigger (from Mystic) = WOW!!!

I just can't believe the difference. Best bunch of bucks I ever spent on a gun upgrade.
