There was lots of excitement when S&W introduced their M&P. Now they seem to be turning up regularly in the EE and other sites. Were they just a flash in the pan or are they a decent pistol. I've been thinking about buying one if I can find one for less than they sold for new.

Love the 2 I've owned, a ton of fun to shoot, must have 6,000 rounds between 2 examples, no FT anything. Check out pistol-training.com for a long term test.

I still have mine! got ~April '07

They're light, have good sights and trigger, ergonomic and reliable... for me....but I tool a female friend to the range last week and she made it Fte twice, she also did it to my P220...

I should have her try my Beretta, I wonder what would happen.

Don't own one (already have 5 -9mm's & 2 -40's) but I did shoot one . I liked it , But good luck finding a used one for less than a new one . Doesn't work that way . For some reason in the gun world you buy new & sell for more . If you don't believe me check out the EE

Why buy an M&P when you can get a Glock or XD..Why buy a Glock or XD when you can get an M&P. My guess is, after a hundred or so years of development, the auto pistol is doing pretty well. They all, with the usual exceptions do their part.
It's personal pref, look, feel, price...ad nauseam
Though I must say, the M&P is one ugly fugger...

Really? I haven't noticed...

Yeah, kind of boggles the mind when they are new and in stock at $599 including shipping and someone is trying to sell one for $$ more in the EE. At any rate, I have one in .40 and one in 9mm. Fantastic pistols, I like the 9mm just a tad better since I can shoot it more accurately. Just that slight difference in recoil I would guess.

Rick.

I don't own one, nor am I an employee of S&W, BUT... I have fired one (in .40), and have owned and been issued a number of pistols over the past 20 years...

IMHO opinion, the M&P is the best evolution yet of the plastic fantastics.

I'm sure there will be a better gun in the future, but the M&P is the front runner for now.

Glock? (Shudder!!!) They were pretty innovative, but remind me of the nihilist guys in the Big Lebowski, with the ferret on the leash.... Misguided!

My girlfriend has one. I like it alot, ergonomics are great, and I found it easy to shoot accurately. I liked the feel better than the Glock I used to own, I also find it easier to get a comfortable grip on then my XD 9.

The large back strap makes it easy on the M&P, the XD always feels weird for my thumbs....damn big hands.

My girlfriend was managing to FTF the thing though. I did not have that trouble. Determined she wasn't placing the web of her hand high enough, once I showed her how to hold it...the gun that is.. it was totally fine.

In short I'd buy one.

I am thinking of picking up an M&P to use in PPC Duty Pistol instead of my 4526, but for the life of me I can't decide whether to pick up a 9mm or a .40. Probably just go to one of the retail ranges in Edmonton and try both and see what I end up hitting the target better with. Or I could by both! (Don't think the wife would go for that though)

The 9mm has very light recoil and is very fast to recover between shots. Mine shoots lead beautifully too. The trigger ends up being like a 2 stage rifle trigger - take up, then break. Should work like a staged revolver for PPC.
