Nope those are options iirc.
They are only available for certain calibers as well.
The two stage trigger takes some getting used to.
I kinda like the old trigger in Gen.1, but that was because I had my trigger guy tinker with it.
The 2stg trigger will work for you, but does take some getting sued to is about all I can say to the contrary .

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the S1 had a 2 position safety whereas the S2 has a 3 position safety. I'm pretty happy with the 2 stage trigger on my S2, however I have not had a chance to shoot an S1 yet.
The S1's have a single stage trigger, the S2's have a 2 stage trigger which you wouldn't be able to tell until you clicked the rifle. Also, as stated, the S1's also have a 2 stage safety, the S2's have a 3 stage safety.
The easiest way to tell is to look on the Bolt Shroud.
The S1 only has "S" and "F" on it for safety indication.
The S2 has the "S" and the "F", but has a distinct notch between the two, for the extra safety position.
This position allows one to cycle the bolt, but it still cannot be fired by pulling the trigger.
I have a couple of each permutation, and have no issue with the 2-stage trigger on the S2.
My vanguard 1 30-06 had a superb trigger on it, right from the store. I'm so used to shooting heavy triggers, it scared me the first few times. However, the detachable mag was bunk. I had two of them, neither fit well, and shells sometimes wouldn't chamber because of the lose fit.
I didn't realize there were differences in the stocks. I took my Hogue off my new Howa 1500 Varmint (S2) and put it on a Vanguard (S1) that I had built into a custom. No issues with fit in this situation.
Good to know though. It might be the difference of buying the correct stock when looking at other manufacturers.
