What's the difference between AK/Type 81 mags?

I see that some vendors are selling type-81 ready mags. What is the difference and is the modification something we can do ourselves? And why do I feel like this has probably been answered a hundred times already.

You have to dremel and file out the metal lip area of the top of the magazine, the one I saw also did not have a last round hold open bolt function.

With the price and availability of stock t81 mags it currently isn't worth buying ak mags and modding to fit.

29$ each currently is a bargain as far as mags go plus you get the last round hold open

True. The exception is if you want ten round AK mags pinned to 5 rounds for a DMR build, or would like a pinned AK drum that is not an empty shell that needs innards self-installed like the factory Type 81 drum shells.

Theres minimal difference. But enough of a difference that AK mags out of the package wont insert in.

Steel mags are stupid heavy though. I use nothing but AK Pmags
