What's the future for 7.62x39 and SKS in Canada with recent events?

the future for 7.62x39....... in general I am expecting all things ammo and reloading related will and are right now becoming depleted and wholesalers are scrambling to secure product for their dealers.
I did an inventory of my own stash and the future is looking bright hehehe
Stocking up on reloading components and powers is the name of the game right now.
fortune favors the bold so if you are worried about the future of your own x39 stash....... better get on being bold with purchasing..... it ain't ever gonna get any cheaper and supply, as well as supply chains, are both being choked off

Im stocked up decent for the time being. Just need to find some bulk .22LR.
~3500 223/5.56
~2500 7.62x39
~2500 9mm
~1000 7.62x51

I began preparing for 7.62x39 becoming expensive to shoot a couple years ago when I ordered a set of Lee reloading dies. I loaded a set of 20 just to try it out. I put the dies away somewhere and I can't remember where I put them.

Sorry...what I meant was the Barnaul production ammo.
Whatever is left on the shelves is not getting replaced.

On a side note, this will also be a disaster for anyone in the 5.56 camp especially the T97 operators, as it was the only cheap(er) alternative and that one was specifically designed for steel cased ammo.

I shoot lots of brass reloads through my Type 97. The dents come right out during the resizing process. Only trouble is I need a plane ticket to China to collect the brass. The rifle really sends them..... Id probably have to get NASA to collect the brass from orbit for me if I accidentally put the gun on gas setting 2.

I'm just glad I stocked up on the Czech ammo on stripper clips when it was 225 a case hehehe
I think I could do well selling all the stripper clips considering the price of those alone these days. Been pondering reloading some x39 but it just doesn't make sense considering the cost of reloading components these days. If I had a x39 bolt gun to go with the semis then reloading x39 would be something I'd consider. Wish someone made some .310 , 130 or 140 gr SPBT for the x39. Years ago I had some Black Hills 150gr 7.62x39 but have not seen that since the late 90's early 2000's.

For me it's just preparing for the day it becomes expensive. I have 600rds of brass cased Yugoslavian surplus 7.62x39. Saw a video on converting berdan primed cased to boxer. Very easy on the x39. I save that 600rds for when it's about go time to start reloading.

Very true...most of the casings that eject out of the T97 are never to be seen again..lol

Biggest red rifle regrets:
1) Selling at cost or giving freely to new shooters most of my $1800 crate of SKS 10 years ago
2) Not filling a long bed pickup with $160 crates of czech surplus from lever arms ~15 years ago
3) Not filling said empty SKS crate with VZ-58's when they were still available lol

Considering the calibre is still "modern" and it's a fairly easy semi auto to operate, some nations may buy up all the surplus SKS's for civil defense stockpiles. Baltic states, Poland, wherever.

I would wager the pipeline of surplus semi auto's to Canada is going to shut down. If not by Govt decree, by market factors. Especially stuff from China. This is a very easy political win for the NDP/Liberal coalition. Ban sales of ammo and firearms from China to Canada. The low IQ urban voters will think it's a great idea.

I am not sure where all our Russian SKS's came from years ago. I heard it was actually Ukraine. But we are no longer getting Russian surplus, and the Ukrainians need any rifle they can get their hands on. I have seen photos of pro-Russian militia in the Donetsk region carrying Mosins!

People have been predicting the end of the cheap SKS for a long time, and they have always been wrong. But now I think they will be right. The Ukrainian invasion is a game changer for surplus firearms and ammo. This will also affect the price for new. I am sure many US factories are getting orders to pump out some 7.62x39 calibres to send to the Ukrainians. This is just going to exacerbate the ammo shortage in the US, hike prices further. If you are still trying to fill up your ammo and reloading supplies chest I would do so now before it gets worse. It certainly can't get better.

It will never run dry. Not in our life time. Besides .22 x39 is probably most popular caliber in Canada. Where is demand there is supply. It will probably come from China. I used to be picky before. Czech or soviet x39, never shot Chinese. Now that's all I shoot because you cant really go out and get a crate of Czech rounds anymore. Norc stuff stinks a lot more and creates a lot more fouling but it still works...

Steel case modern non corrosive will hopefully eventually drop in price. We need a non russian manufacturer, i know there is one in the US. Maybe wishful thinking. If it doesnt drop in price some of us can cash in and send our kids to med school.

If I owned an SKS I would have set aside a case of NC ammunition. What I would do if I had an SKS would be to cast my own While I might half a case of NC 7.62x39 I mostly would have shot reloaded cast bullets. I would have been doing so for a number of years by now. I would cast my own from WW alloy. Even with the rise in primers and powder it would be cheap entertainment.

If I was worried about not being able to by ammo for your SKS I would sell it and buy something you can buy ammo for. Reloaded ammo isn't cheap anymore but it is relative to ever increasing commercial ammo.

Anyone who either would register their SKS or hand it in needs their head examined. Trudeau and the piss tank Blaire will not be in power for ever.

Take Care

Bob

Truth is sealed crates of ammo aren't going bad any time soon and the price is steadily creeping up if cost of freight is included. Nobody has any idea what comes next from the gun grabbers and my mind takes me to caliber restrictions are coming .... anything military .556, 7.62 x 39 , x51 , x54 ect oh and that uber scary 9mm which according to demoncrats cn shoot through schools.... blow the lungs right out of a deer..... blah blah blah goes the rhetoric over their false flags..... but I digress.
In these present times? Anyone who thinks x39 will be available next year at any price could be mistaken , ya never know.
a couple cases is not near enough if you have had your eyes and ears open the last few years.
If I did own an sks.... which I neither confirm nor deny..... I would have bought it cheap and stacked it deep long before now

The sks is obsolete as a defence firearm in any first world nation.
