What's the going rate for an 1899 in .300 with the rotary mag?

Of course condition is everything, and I have to ask whether you're really looking for an "1899", or a model 99. You should be able to find a very useable and cosmetically clean 99 in 300 Savage in the $400-$600 range. I bought my first 99 in 300 Savage about 10 years ago for $325. It's an early 1950s "EG" model, and with the right loads, it's a very accurate rifle. I've acquired a few other 99s since then. You're right about calling on Mad Dog, as he's definitely the resident expert.

I suppose your right. I call all 99's 1899's and all 94's 1894's. I don't know why, just always have.

Thanks for the advice and tale. Wood is somthing I like refinishing, as long as the metal is in good shape and the tang isn't cracked, it might be somthing I will want to look for. Of course I have to pay off my new moose rifle first. ;)

Not going to use the 458 Lott for moose ?!?!?!?! :D

Dont forget 99trix. He has a good idea of whats shakin with 99s too. Got 2 now and may get another later on. Yeah $400-600 seems to be the going but I have seen them as low as $375.There was one on the EE yesterday I think too.

I saw a 99 a few months back, the steel was in very good shape and the wood was in need of a re-finishing. Overall the rifle wasn't in bad shape. 300 savage too. sticker said $425.

Well - A 50's vintage 300 EG aint exactly rare. There have been several in the EE that were in good condition for approx 350...

Exactly.

A 99 EG in 300 Sav is as common as a Win 94 in 30-30 and usually the cheapest of them all to find. Honestly, unless an EG in 300 is still in the box they shouldn't be selling for more than $400 on the EE. That 99F in 300 that was on there this week was a real good deal but F's kick like a mule cause they're featherweights. Best you can find is an R if your stand hunting, lots of weight and seem to be more accurate for some reason, and ya, I can say this without BSing cause I've owned and shot all the models in this caliber listed. I know some guys might get their nose bent out of shape on that statement and say no way, my F is deadly accurate and I have no arguement with that (as long as they've shot the other models in that caliber as well). To me and my years of punching paper at the range and putting deer on the pole I've always found the R's the best. Now if your walking around in the mountains ya, an F is gonna be lighter but who's gonna take a 300 Sav into the mountains taking shots across valleys?;)

The EG's are common, in fact if I find a cheap one around $200 I'm gonna make a lamp out of it for my deer camp, either that or stick it in the ground to tie the dog to outside!:dancingbanana:R:d:
