What's the going rate to drill and tap a side mount?

Epp's smithy charges $15 (plus $15 for the set up) to mount a scope with drilling and tapping required. Your local shop should be in the same neighbourhood.

whats the going rate to drill and tap?

Oh no, your butt puckered up, why? Lets see I have a 2000.oo dollar drill press,a450.00 drill jig, with about 200.00 dollars worth of special attachments for it.About a 1000.00 dollars worth of drill bits,750.00 dollars worth of hand electric drills.A 600.00 dollar drill bit sharpener,About 4000.00 dollars worth of rings and bases in stock.Oh no I forgot the taps, lets say another thousand.. dollars .So I charge 12.50 a hole to drill and tap,but you sure got me thinking I should charge a lot more.

Correctly locating and drilling and tapping can vary... $75 to $100 for 4 holes is not out of line if it is done correctly.

If it is not located properly it isn't worth anything.

...am I stupid for thinking I'll be able to do it myself on a cooey project I've been working on, I've got the drill, bits, and the tap + die set

If you've never done it on hard steel, or on a rounded reciever style (pipe) you may want to give it a while beforehand on something not as vital.

And, as a sidenote after seeing my cousins rifle..... remove the bolt before drilling;):D:eek:

I plan on doing a buch of practice ones on some steel stock I've got laying around, worst case scenario I weld it on :D
