What's the gopher crop like this year, south

Without giving away your best spots, what is the gopher crop like this year in the Pincher Creek, Cowley area (south in general)?

Are they cyclical like rabbits?

I am in Calgary next week and have a few contacts south. I am wondering if it's worth driving down for the weekend. I've shot ~ 500 on good weekends in the past, but that was bumper crop years, apparently.

Any idea what it's like this year now that the weather has warmed up. I've been there mid May in the past, and the babies were well up and about. Mostly grown even.

From what I have seen around here it's about average or a bit below. The flooding this and last spring have hit some areas pretty hard. Might pick up as it has been an unusually late cold spring.
