Hey All

I just picked up my first gun. The Savage Mark 2 G (.22LR).
Love the looks and happy with it. I purchased the correct bases for it while at SAIL, but haven't bought a Scope or anything yet. I want one but I see so much back and forth on these I wanted to start my own question.

Im not blowing holes in tanks and trying for 1000 yards so with all that in mind which will do the job and be reliable / user friendly?

I DON'T want a eBay special cheapo lol but i also don't want to pay more then the guns worth to break holes in paper.

Thanks all !

For normal rimfire shooting, if you can find them for a decent price the Bushnell rimfire 3-9x32 is decent, the simmons 22mag is pretty good, the tasco rimfire 3-9 looks like it would work well enough, but I have never tried one. There's lots of more expensive higher end scopes, but for me on a .22 I would be happy with any of those.

It really depends what features you are looking for. I've been kind of looking for a scope for a rifle similar to yours but in my case, it's to build up a trainer replica of my centerfire match rifle, so I have some specific requirements in terms of the scopes features (ffp, mil/mil, etc). Determine what features you'd like and then go from there.

I have a cheap Tasco on one of mine, I think it was less than a hundred bucks, probably more now, 6-24x and does the job just fine. I also have a Mueller 8-25x that I like quite well, also under $200 you can get them on Amazon. Not the clearest glass on either of these I'm sure but they passed the box test which is the main thing I care about. Like you say you're not going out to 1000m with a rimfire so the glass is plenty clear enough.

Interesting. There seems to be a lot out there for $70 that some say are fine and others say go the $200 route. I few Bushnells i've seen are kind of middle of that.
Any brands or things to completely avoid in a .22 lr ?

I know on centerfire ones it'll be more critical to make sure the scope will handle it. But no recoil and very little eye relief is needed in a .22 i gather .

Nikon or Sightron rimfire scopes. Sightron now has a 3-9X32 in rimfire. Another that i like it's the Vortex DB HP 2-8x32. Got one on a 10-22 and i'm very happy with it. Burris also have a rimfire scope. Should be good to.

I ordered a simmons protarget 3-9X40 with my cz 455. A friend of mine has the same scope and it works really well.

target shooting or hunting?

target shooting - minimum 16X with adjustable paralax

Hunting - get one of those 'rimfire models' in 3-7 or 3-9

Sightrons

I have this one on my CZ www.hirschprecision.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=102_135&products_id=1589

I have this one on my MK2TR www.hirschprecision.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=102_135&products_id=1594

Both great scopes and perfect for .22's ;)
