What's the ideal Scope for a Blackspecial???

Nice Black beuty Sigismund,

I see that you put a velcro besides the ejection port. Does it really save the casings (brass)? Mine gets beat up that forget thinking about reloading.

That's more to save the finish on the rifle. The brass is pretty much screwed with this gun. Maybe if you duct taped a mattress to the ejection port you've save the brass..... :D

All my brass is beat up. The velcro only saves the finish on the rifle.

The battery life on the Elcan DR is a modest 3000 hours. Its the toyota hybrid of illuminated scopes.

Oh yeah the brass is dinged beyond all recognition. Also it's ejected so far at 2 o'clock that it will discourage you to go hunting for it:D

Only the neck on my brass has a slight dent, not the body. I think the brass from my PE-90 is still useable :D.

I took apart the rear sight on my Black Special, and put a Falcon 2.5-10 in low rings on it. It fits great and I don't need the cheek piece.
With the ranges I typically use it at(50,-300m), the scope is right on for magnification.

And since it's a range and coyote gun, I'm not worried about having to go to the irons if the scope ####s the bed. :p

For any kind of tactical shooting, I stick to the AR family(but that's only because I dont have a Swiss Arms Carbine or CQB :D).

Hi Guys

Before I fired my first shot in my classic green I pondered what I would use to protect the finish where the cases strike on ejection. I remembered that I had a piece of foam insulation (for noise reduction in tractor cabs) that a friend had given me. The foam was black, 1/4" thick and was peel and stick on the one side. 1/4 seemed to thick so I cut out the size of the patch I wanted then cut it down the middle so it was only 1/8 thick. Works great. It will need to be replaced with a new patch in the future. You can see the spot where the cases hit the patch and chew it a bit, thinning it out, but there is only a small ding in the case itself, easily reloadable. So a thicker pad may be the key to saving your brass cases.

The NXS 1-4. A compromise right down the middle of what you want to do.
A handicap at the shorter stuff compared to the ACOG with a DocOptic, but better for 300-500 yard shooting compared to the same ACOG.
In a one-optic race, it would probably be your best bet.

This (NXS 1-4 with their NP1 reticle and zero stop externally adjustable turrets) is what my wife and I both run on our black special targets. I tried the 2.5 - 10 for a bit but found it very wanting at distances less than 50 yards. As an added bonus, we both tend to prefer lower magnification for longer range stuff too (seems to make us concentrate harder, and is less suseptable to mirage).

The wife ran a MkIV 3.5-10 for a bit, but it was a gorrilla for her and she hated it for everything other than shooting from her bipod. You should have seen the grin on her face when we got out for the first time after changing her rig out to the NSX 1-4. The best part about the optic are the externally adjustable zero stopped turrets. She only shoots about once a month and has no trouble at all laying down and ringing my service rifle steel gongs all the way out to 500. I tell her the only way I can keep up is if she lets me out once a week to practice without her....:)

I run a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x 50mm with Zeiss (Warne) quick release rings on mine. But it's not for CQB. I've set this up for target/varmint use only. I added the quick release just because the back up sites were there. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.
