What's the knock on Glocks??

Love the Glock or hate the Glock, everyone is entitled to their OPINION. When it comes to FACT, opinions play no role. The FACTS are that Glocks are a PROVEN battlefield pistol trusted by military and law enforcement around the world, they experience far less failures than the majority of the guns on the market, they are extremely durable/tough (more than they even need to be really). The way a gun looks, plays no role in how it functions, so the fact that the Glock looks like a "2x4" has no bearing on how it performs, and it performs as close to flawless as one could expect from a mechanical device.

It also feels like 2x4...

There are many other proven, tested and trusted side arms that are something other then a Glock...

I disagree. I don't believe there is any pistol that is as proven or trusted than the Glock. The 1911 has it beat only in the fact it has been around 100 years, but I don't believe the stock 1911 can compete with the Glock when it comes to durability and reliability over sustained abuse and field torture. Not even getting into magazine capacity, simplicity of build/strip, number of parts, cost, weight, etc etc etc...

I own 1911's and a Glock, Ill be getting another Glock next week. I far prefer to shoot my 1911's, I'm just as accurate with my Glock as the 1911's, but I really do prefer the feel of a 1911. That being said, if the SHTF and I was only able to take one pistol, it would be my Glock.

I have 3 Glocks, 2 XD's, 2 1911's, all good. My favorite is my old G17 (12 years old)... it has gone through appox 200000 rds...she is worn, tattered... Parts replaced (magazine springs) I will keep using it until because it works.

My newer G17(6 years old), I broke the extractor trying to straighten it, and one guide rod.

My G35 (5 years old), works great, no parts replaced.

Its not like I have to drag a rolling tool box of spare parts worth thousands of dollars to get through a major IPSC match with a Glock. (I know, a shameless plug against the 1911)

The parts replaced is not many. Dependable, whether in competition, when I conceal carry, or my work overseas. They aint the ###iest beasties, but inexpensive and they work.

Yep, I hates them.

This thread has turned into a bit of a S**t show. I guess this could go on for another 80 posts and we'll still be back here.

I appreciate all who took the time to type their opinions.

X2. If you enjoy shooting the pistol of your choice then you've achieved your goal. Carry on...

Ive had a number of 1911s (7 different ones from reputable manufacturers), CZs, an XD, and an assortment of others.

A G17 is the only handgun Ive actually kept. Simple, reliable, no-nonsense design. Parts and aftermarket goodies are cheap and plentiful. Lastly, and most importantly, Glock has the single strongest most durable finish of any gun Ive ever used.

Love Glocks. Have two of em, and also a 70's series 1911.

Previously I have met a guy who runs a guard company (right word?) over here. He refuses to let his guys use Glocks and insists on SIG's, because "if one of my guys has his gun stolen, a Glock is much more dangerous, because the trigger is much lighter on the first round then with a SIG"

that is the strangest reasoning i've ever heard

Lets see, i absouluty HATE the appearance Butt F#$@#n Ugly
They feel like a 2x4

On the plus side, dead stone reliable and accurate

From a service weapon side,
easy manual of arms for simple training (for simple folks)
light, for reduced payload on already overloaded troopies
complete interchangeability of parts between weapons,
dead cheap to buy in bulk,
very small number of parts for 1) easy maintenance, 2) low support overhead due to small inventory of said parts required
available world wide
proven reliability in poor conditions and with little to no maintenance
life span of said pistol will exceed most if not all metal framed competition

I have no problems with how Glocks look, quite like em in fact. Rather like a good mullet, all business in front, party in the back :D

that is the strangest reasoning i've ever heard

Every strange reason ever conceived for not liking Glocks is in this thread.

"Glocks make my heart weep!"

"Glocks are dangerous for criminals!"

"Glocks make my vag sandy!"

Whats next???

The bit after "role" is where you strayed from fact to bullsh*t, there is simply no proof of that. In fact, while Glocks are amazingly reliable for most individuals(particularly individuals who shoot less than 5,000 rounds a year) and most police departments , there are police departments who have dumped them, for cause. If you had owned a Gen 1 Glock which dumped multiple trigger springs or tore rails, a Gen 2 with a disturbing propensity to "hydraulic" AKA pump, it's striker if it condensed moisture, a Gen 3 that wouldn't fire with a light mounted, or an early Gen 4 with either the RSA gremlin, or the extractor gremlin, I'm betting that you would not think that Glock was the only gun that never had an issue. After all, when it comes to FACT, nothing is faultless, and Murphy is driving the bus.

I've been a dyed-in-the-wool 1911 man since my childhood. I tried to warm up to the Glock back in the early 90s, but it just didn't seem to work for me. A buddy convinced me to give his Gen 4 a try a few weeks ago and I surprised the hell out of myself by shooting the $hit out of the center of the target at 25 yards. I now own a new Gen 4 Glock 17 and hope to use it shooting Production Division in IPSC soon. I really don't care about cosmetics, but am far more interested in performance. Glock is building a good gun. You don't sell the millions of units they have by building lemons.

Does that mean I plan on selling my Colt and Detonics 1911 collections? Absolutely not! I still love my 1911s, just as I continue to enjoy my SIG P226, Beretta 92F, S&W wheel guns, Colt Python and a bunch more. I really don't get this phenomenon where Glock owners seem to make Glock ownership a part of their identity and feel almost beholden to the brand. As a result they have to attack all other makes of firearms and must "defend" the "honor" of their Glocks to the last breath. That's just silly.

Especially since the Glock family is soooooo bizarre, that honour might well be a four letter word to them.

With all this Glock Talk, I just went and bought my second! Better hurry, Wolverine Supplies is running a Glock promotion until the end of July. Buy a Glock and get a free range bag and Glock ball hat! :)

Wow really?
It must be the very personal statement of yours, because there are many proven pistols (over much longer period of time than Glock) out there.
I'm glad You like Glock, but ignoring many proven platforms won't get You far.
How about SIG P22x family?
How about CZ75 or Browning Hi Power?
H&K family of handguns?
Even Beretta 92...

Whether glorified or criticized, the Glock "safe action" pistol has definitely achieved mythical status since it's introduction in the 80's.

I grew up shooting Glocks and since embracing the platform have held them as the standard for a fighting gun.

I think it's pertinent though to remember that any gun is essentially a "lead delivery machine".
Brand loyalty, legends of reliability, and unfair bias can make for some interesting threads, but unfortunately tend to say more about the man than the machine.
ANY machine can malfunction.

Glocks are not perfect, but they have earned one helluva reputation for extreme reliability- which I can attest to. In proper working order, this machine will deliver lead dependably. But hey, that can be said about any firearm in proper working order, right?

Where a Glock shines is in its ability to take abuse and operate reliably under extreme conditions i.e. running dirty or dry and digesting poor quality ammo, etc.

As far as the OP's original question, I would have to say that many people bash Glock simply because it's the most prolific polymer pistol on earth, and that, along with the fanatical following, seems to bother some shooters of other platforms and preferences.
Glock has a reputation for reliability and ease of use and there will always be lively debate surrounding such reputations.
My personal experience with glock has been very favorable over the last 20 years.

You do not have to like Glocks to acknowledge their merits.

glock n' roll:rockOn:

I only own two pistols and both of them are Glocks. A Gen 3 G17 and a Gen 3 OD G20. I love the way they look and feel and also how they operate and take down. I chose to stick to one platform in the hopes that I could become profficient with them. I also love the parts availability and ease of repair/modification

However, I do not only like Glocks and have owned other brands in the past. I also really like the HK USP/P30L/HK45/PM7, the Sig P220, P239, 2022, beretta 92 series, CZ 75 pre-b, Shadow, CZ97B, Jericho, yadda yadda yadda. Would love to own them all but couldn't justify or afford spending all that money. I didn't like my first Glock (Gen2 G17) but they have definitely grown on me and will stay in my collection and remain my main shooters but may have to add a CZ97B ;)

I bought my first two handguns last week, a glock 17 and a ruger sr1911.

I must say, as far as shooting goes.. So far I like my 1911 better. Its prettier, fits my hand nice and seems to be very accurate. Dunno why, I just like it more.

That being said, the G17 is the one that will stay in my bedroom safe with a couple loaded mags.. I love the simplicity and it would definitely be the first gun I'd go for in a SHTF scenario. I was surprised how nice the glock shot, I found it to be very accurate for what it is. Ive only got 200 rounds through it myself so I still need practice shooting it but so far I like it alot.

I used to loathe Glocks. The main detractors being that they were ugly and had a weird grip angle. But after tinkering with and being disappointed by many a different make and model of pistol, I relented and said to myself: "Self, Glocks are very popular, you should at least TRY one." So I did. Now my Glock 17 Gen 4 is my main gun. I spend more time shooting it and practicing with it than any other.

As for the lousy trigger. Yes. The Glock series of pistols have a very unforgiving trigger for newer shooters or those with lousy technique. That said, if you have proper technique, there's really nothing wrong with the trigger. If you can shoot a Glock well, you can shoot anything well.
