What's The Most Explosive Gopher Bullet For .223 Velocities?

I've had excellent luck with the 36gr VG, 50gr V-Max, 52gr Speer HP, 55gr Hornady SPSX (which I was able to push at 3600fps from a 12" twist .22-250, at 3700fps they started to blow up, and only about 10% made it to target), and 40gr Blitz. They all worked very well. The VG at 4200fps from a .22-250 is pretty spectacular. For a cheap and effective solution, the SPSX is a boring mist-maker.

How do you like the 17 FB? I am in the process of building one to play with this year. I am also doing a 20 VT on the same platform as a switch barrel.

Years ago I spent an afternoon with a 17 Mach4 and was impressed with what it did to gophers.

I like it. It's a Cooper so it's a sweet rifle either way. You can plant a coyote at 300 yards and it's like you turned off a switch when they get hit. Farthest gopher was about 200 yards. I should be going out now and thinning out the magpies before the trees get leaves.

What exactly do these videos show us? FS

the ballistic tip has a thicker copper base, so, penetrates further. The varmageddon has a thin non-tapered jacket with a base the same thickness as the rest of the jacket, so it doesn't penetrate as far. Both expand violently. The Ballistic tip might be a better selection for coyotes and such, but the main difference just comes down to price
