whats the most useless or pointless cartridge ever

IIRC hornady loads the 30 TC as a 'Light Magnum" offering. I wonder what a handloader can do (or cant do in this case) with this cartridge. 300 savage anyone?

the most useless cartridge. hmmmm i would have to say
the one that doesnt go bang.
seriously every cartridge has a niche and/or purpose
some we jus thavent figured out yet

Based on a very recent experience, I'd say the .244 Remington, it may not be "the" most useless, but it sure seems a good candidate.

Sure, but doesn't the 1-12 twist put limitations on it as a deer rifle? a category that the .243 has no problem fitting into.

Sure, but if you just wanted a 400 yard varmint gun? The .244 is a nice choice. Where as a 17HM2? What's that do that the .22 s/l/lr won't? The HM2 is my vote for most useless.

Yeah...I'll give you that Bronco, I did say the .244 may not be "THE" most useless, but? What about that 30-06 contraption with the smaller bullet with a plastic sleeve around it, frig...I forgot what they called that thing.

Accelerators. thats a pretty useless type of ammuntition, loaded in an incredible cartridge ;) they load it in 30-30 as well, and used to load it in 308 Win. Might as well buy a 22 cal varminter

Useless (literally, having no utility): only one I can think of is the .22 shot shell. Can't shoot targets, can't shoot clays, can't kill varmints bigger than a mouse more than 5 feet away. I want to like it, but what's the point of this round again?
I agree they are useless but even worse are the .38 spl. shotshells because we can't use handguns in the field (ATC owners excepted) and there are few rifles that chamber the .38 spl.

Cartridges are only pointless when the are combined with the wrong rifle or wrong useage (but this is not a 223 and deer thread) the first that jumps to mind is the 6.5 rem mag when it was introduced in a 18.5" carbine, the second that comes to mind is 223 when combined with a restricted AR variant because for me if you can't hunt with it it is pointless.

Now if the AR variant was not restricted it would be pointless because an AR variant in 204 ruger would be soooo much better. :)

uphere, down here there is plenty of use for quiter varmint rounds with more punch than the rimfire mags

80cm Dora - rate of fire is too slow for my liking ;)

Anything developed in the last 30 years except for .338 LM and .408 Chey Tac. Just about every round developed recently is made to generate revenue for gun companies and stores. Not like that's a bad thing, I just won't own any of them. I own 5 guns in 3 calibres that were all developed over 100 years ago and they all shoot fine.

Useless for me personally; 6PPC. Benchrest shooting for me would be one hell of a snore fest. I prefer to actually handle the rifle I shoot and develop my skills as a shooter and not just as a rifle builder or machinist. No slag on the guys who do shoot BR, I just don't care for it.

Also useless for me, hunting rounds like .243 or .270. Any animal alive, save maybe a Blue Whale, can be taken with .30-06, .303, .308 or any other military round with a history. So I don't really see any use in them. Once again, that's just my preference. Your milage may vary.

Here in Southern Ontario, you can't hunt with any rifle more than .275 cal. Ya ya, I wish I live in North Bay too :)
