I have 2 CZ 452 Americans, one is a 22LR and the other a 17HMR. They are, IMHO, a pretty good deal for the price you pay. If you want a noticeably more accurate rimfire, you will have to pay "double plus" the money for a used one, and a new 40X, Anshutz 54 action or other big player will set you back serious change. I own and shoot a number of older Mossbergs. These are "fun" guns, quite accurate, and great for grouse, plinking, pest destruction, etc. For the next step up, my CZ's or my Winchester 69A come with me. Casual competition, fun shoot, egg shoot etc. The accuracy that is delivered by my 504THB, 541S and 541T is the third tier of my battery, and the latter two are used to put naysayers to rest at sporter barrelled 22 competitions and silhouette shoots. If we need to get serious for 50 yard or 100 yard [or longer] competitions, then the Suhl or the 40X make an appearance. Spending $5-600 on a decent 22 seems quite OK to me, and the CZ fits that niche. Regards, Eagleye.
