What's the story on Sig P229?

Love my two tone P229 that I got from questar! Ellwood epps got a P229 SAS Gen 2 but in .40. https://ellwoodepps.com/sig-sauer-p229-sas-gen-2-extended-bbl.html
Personally, I'd save the hassle of trying to hunt for a very rare .357 and get the just as fun .40 at epps. Good luck.

If I had to guess, your best bet would be to buy what you want in 40, then source a conversion barrel to 357 from the states. All in all a very pricey endeavour. I also want a 357 P229, but it may be a while. Until then I'll have to be happy with 9 and 40.
Thanks for that. The caliber is the least important variable, so .40 will be fine.
I have one other obstacle. I finished the Restricted course in January and turned in the application to upgrade my FAC in Feb. However, I won't be able to legally buy one until I get the permit. It sounds like Sigs have a very short shelf life.

I'm sure they'll take your money and hold it for you till you can legally possess it...so get out that CC and call.

Take what I am about to say with a grain of salt, because I think that this is the way the law works but I am not a lawyer and I can not state that this is the case definitively. If you find what you are looking for, (such as in Ellwood Epps for instance) give them a call. I think you may be able to put a deposit on it and that should hold it until you actually have your RPAL in hand. The store will not be able to begin the transfer process, nor will you be able to take possession of it until you physically have your RPAL (and meet whatever other criteria that the CFO wants), but a deposit should hold it for you till you are done waiting & jumping through your hoops.
No matter what, you have nothing to lose by calling them or, since you live in Ontario, to drive to Orillia and talk to them face-to-face. (They do tend to be extremely busy on Saturdays though, so they may not have a lot of time on a Saturday). Be up front and explain your situation and if they see a sale, they will likely be willing to help you.

This is quite nice. I am glad I asked. I called Epps, The Gun Room and two others a few months ago, and the news then was that the extended (Canadian) barrel was too expensive to produce so few and they were not available. I thought I would have to settle for a P226.
In case anybody wants to advise, I wanted the P229 SAS for several reasons.
1. Interchangeable barrels between .40 and .357 Sig.
2. Lighter weight than other P229s (by not much, and depending on comparison).
3. Milled steel slide for added weight (I know... contradictory) on firing for recoil.
4. Compact but legal (not for carry, but for my own sense of proportion)
5. SRT trigger
6. No beavertail
7. It's a Sig.
8. I don't need a flashlight and I can't get used to the idea, so I don't need a rail.

Yes, of course.
I was speaking more of why the Sig instead of Glock, Beretta, etc. According to Sig's site, they completely re-worked the 229, milling the slide to help it stand up to the .357 Sig.
I am expecting the .357 Sig barrel will be a bit of a problem, since the stock barrel is 3.9 inches and the Canadian requirement to remain restricted instead of prohibited is 4.1.
However, I am happy to have the .40 S&W to start with. I can worry about changing out barrels another day.
Now, I just need that permit within the next 90 days.
