Whats the story on the 9.3X62 in Canada?

Not 100% sure on this, but twist is probably 1-12".

I haven't succumbed to the short-barrel craze, my husky has the standard 23 5/8" ( 60 cm ) barrel, and it seems fine to me. Short barrels seem stubby to me, and don't point as naturally as a longer one... just seems to lack any "feel" in the front end.

Hopefully by spring thaw my Husky makeover will be complete and I'll be able to post some pics. If I were building from scratch, it would be a Mauser 98 ex-military action along the lines of the old commercial type-A sporters.
 
I'm torn as well. I have a 9.3x62 reamer and go gauge, BUT as "why not?" stated I could buy a rifle for the same price as rebarreling my sako. ($1000) I like the look of the zastava's on trade ex and they are only $695. My mind is turning a mile a minute trying to desypher what to.
 
The perfect (classic) 9.3x62 for me is on a Mauser 98 action. The cartridge is a classic African round and as such it should, IMO, go in a classic CRF action. Given the German extraction, the Mauser is just a classic choice. I like the classic Mauser with the military safety or a low-swing variant if you want a scope. If I was building one from scratch I would likely go with a 24" barrel, a banded front sight and a single fixed blade rear sight. A nice classy walnut stock with a slim, British-style forend and either horn or ebony forend tip. Steel grip cap and a Silvers (or red Pachmayr) recoil pad. If I just had to have a scope I'd go with a Leupold 1.5-5x in a QD style ring.

Maybe price out a Tikka T3 Lite Battue in 9.3x62. ...might come close?

Most rifles have a 1:14" twist rate. A minority have a 1:10" twist.
1:14" will shoot most bullets, even the longer ones and in fact, I still have to find one rifle that does not shoot above the average hunting rifle.
 
I've been looking at the Zastava's on Trade-ex. I shoot left handed and there is one lefty, but the wood on that stock looks fugly. I suppose I could eventually re-stock it. Anyone know what the barrel length on the Zastava's are? Clay at Prophet did mention there is a T3 lefty there but that might be a bit light for me. I've never shot anything in the .366 range. I definitely want irons on it so even if I did go with the T3 I would still have to send it to a smith.

Iv held a few tikkas while they fit and point great im just not fond of the synthetic stock. I'd like to get something with a nice wood stock with open sights. Not many people keep this caliber in stock! I'm looking for something that looks old school like the zastava although P&D have a xbolt medallion in .375 H&H for $950

T3 battue comes with irons if you could find one. I don't mind the look of the zastava wood stock although I'm looking at them on an iPhone. If I didn't like the color or finish it wouldn't take much to sand it, stain it and re spray it.

I don't think they make the Battue in a left handed version, but I could be pleasantly suprised. I have T3 Lite in 6.5x55 and love it. I'm talking specifically about the left handed 9.3x62 stock on the Tradex site. There are lots of others with decent wood, just this one is a bit ugly.

It depends on the model.

Basically, Zastava models are;
The LK M70 "Mannlicher" have a 20" tube, while the LK M98 Mannlicher have a 23.622" one.
The LK M70 PSS (Synthetic + SS, w or w/o sights) have a 22" barrel while the LK M70 PS (Synthetic + Blued Steel, w or w/o sights) have a 23.622".

The LK M70 Battue, Lefthand, Lux all have 600mm (23.622") barrels.

Then, the LK M808 have a 25.6" one and a detachable magazine...

All those in 9.3X62.

Then, you have the special orders made for mass purchasers. With or without sights, longer shorter barrels... you get the picture.

As to recoil: My T3 Lite in 9.3 X 62 is ready to go with a Fullfield II, 2 - 7 X 35 scope, 3 cartridges + sling at 7.4 lbs (7.2 lbs empty)

The load: 286gr NP's at 2546 fps = 45.5 ft-lbs.

However: The 60yr mark was so long ago I forget when it happened! I'm average size but perhaps in better condition than the average 77 year old, though I have diabetes and some arthritis. But we are only as old as we think!

Of the more than 20 big-game cartridges for which I've developed serious handloads -- 10 of which were magnums including numbers like .300 WBY, .340 WBY, .375 H&H and .458 Win Mag., and several versions in many of them, I think the 9.3 X 62 has to be one of my all-time favorites.

It's accurate right out of the box; has enough Oooomph for anything that walks this planet; is easy to load for and a joy to tote! In truth it's competing with my all-time favorite: a #1 Ruger in .45-70 IMP (long-throat).

That is identical to my T3 and I really liked it, but my Son borrowed it for Elk hunting and kept it saying that old men like me ( 67 ) shouldn't play with hard kicking toys...... but I sure fooled him, went out and bought a CZ550FS in 9.3X62.
Now when I see him coming I hide it... LOL !

with Tikka this is very easy : if they re making a barrel for a right hand you ll get it for left hand but you dont have to be shy and ask the dealer that is willing to request from Stoeger in Canada then wait but if you really want it you ll get it.

i love my Zastava in 9,3x62 and sorry i wont sell it.

i may have to add that the 9,3x62 that i ve used in Europe for a while was mostly for driven hunts and Europeans mostly are using the same way this caliber or the twin 9,3x74r in express rifle. but his origin was not for Euro_forest but for dangerous game in Africa. the combo rifle 98 and that caliber was the answer for people that were living on the land and had to fight against elephants, buffalor, leopard or lion. this is not the best caliber for the heaviest game but that caliber is really efficient and some well known hunters here are still telling the same.

so after selling my old rifle i had no choice to buy again another one and our godfather of that caliber (he's good too on the 270 and 9,3x57 to say the least) just call me about some on Tradeex and as a lefty i was really happy as last year after an accident i wasnt able to shoot my 375 ruger but i can the 9,3x62.

so glad to shoot it again.

another day ill speak about Ted and his love for freighter canoe : contagious you said ....
 
Beautiful rifles Ted and 9.3Mauser! I love the idea of the flip sight on the rear base. If only there were a few more bolts on the other side, it would make things a bit easier.

Medvedqc - In regards to your comment about Tikka, are you saying they will produce one if asked nicely? I know that Zastava won't be coming out of your hands any time soon..., if you are parting with any lefties, let me know :)
