What's the Tikka of the optics world?

Tikkas are mid priced but punch above their weight class. You can spend many times the money and not get much more smoothness or accuracy. The entry level ones are plain but have the same barrel as the most expensive ones.

So what would be the equivalent in the optics world, if there is one? I'm focusing primarily on glass, not warranty or tracking or things like that. Would it be Leupold, Zeiss, or something like Burris?

I think the Zeiss V4 series of riflescopes is probably a good example. Aside from the 4x magnification being a tad bit annoying sometimes and not covering larger ranges I’d say it’s the Tikka of the Optics word. Especially if you can’t them on sale. They retail around $2000 but I’ve seen the 4-16 on sale at a few shops regularly for about $1300.

So much so that I plan to get one of the 3-12 at some point for a hunting rifle.

The original Leupold VX-I were the premium 'punch above their price point' for me.

I used to rebuild Norinco M-305's (got out of it 6 years ago) and a Leupold VX-I was my 'go to' for a scope on them: it would stand up to the abuse of the semi-auto .308WIN for tens of thousands, if not more, rounds. More expensive scopes couldn't at 5x the price. Bushnell's most expensive Elite and Match would have its glass shook loose after 300-500 rounds and go back on warranty. If I didn't experience it 3-4 times before quitting Bushnell I wouldn't believe it.

leupold
burris - higher end ones.
vortex - strike eagles/razors
steiner
cheaper swarovskis
zeiss - although I dont hear good things about warranty after 10 years. i stand to be corrected though

Guess it depends what you want to do with it and what you want to spend on it. For me, for hunting, Swaro 3.5-10x42 BRH, nice and light, good reticle that is adequate for my needs, excellent glass. Next choice up would be a Zeiss V4. For the range I'd look at Tract, Apex, Trijicon, Deltaand Sightron, all FFP, mostly influenced by the reticle in those, whichever one I liked best. I have a Tract 4-20x50PRS on a .22, a Delta 4.5-30x56 on a 6.5cm and a Sightron S3Tac 4-16x44 on a 6.5CM. I like Japanese and German scopes, still have a couple of Leupolds, but, doubt that I'll ever buy another Leupold. Never have spent any time looking at Nightforce.
