I do a ton of calling.
My go to is Remington VTR in 223.
50 Grain VMAX

I run a Nikon with BDC 600 Reticle.

I'm looking to upgrade or modify. Undecided.

If you could buy anewRig what would it be and why?

This is not a caliber debate. We are talking Rifles

For a coyote gun weight and accuracy trump everything. I currently use a savage 16 lh stainless synthetic. Its killed a lot of dogs. I only use that since I'm a lefty and that was the only option available locally at the time. If I was a righty I would be looking at a Howa alpine or maybe one of the mini actions. Kimber would be nice too. I keep thinking I should trade the savage off on a tikka just to have the dbm option but I've been getting along fine without... I like to top it with a 2.5-10 with a bdc reticle. It gets me out to 650 yards without dialing and I always have my rangefinder with me since its built into my binos.

I'd look at upgrading your stock, otherwise you have the perfect rig already.

Mines by no means the ultimate, but I chose to run a Tikka T3 lite Synthetic Stainless, it a durable all weather rifle, I can strap it on jump on a Skidoo or quad and not worry too much about dings, currently its topped with a Leupold 3i 3.5-10 with CDS,
Furthest kill was 589 yards on a Male yote, all others have been inside 300, so no real need for the CDS, just a nice to have I guess just incase, really I can just do as simple does and hold over, looking back I'd save the extra 50 bucks for powder,
The 6 round mag is nice to have for those runners that I just dont seem to lead right, and the spares pop in and out easy in cold weather with gloves when using hounds, tape up the muzzle and away I go,

My current rig:
Tikka T3x (223) with Leupold Vx3i 2.5-8x36

My next year rig:
Tikka T3 (204) (with T3x stock) upgraded recoil lug and bottom metal mated with Leupold.

Tikka T3x action being used for a build

Exactly.

I have a VTR in .243 and put an HS Precision take off from a 700p LTR. Made a huge difference. It actually shoots good now.

Always liked those triangled barrel guns.

They look kinda cool. They're not too front heavy. They're stiffer than a sporter barrel and lighter than a varmint barrel. They don't shoot any different just because of the shape though.

I will say that I like the machined in, top ported brake. I don't think it does much in regards to recoil reduction (not that it needs it) however it does an amazing job at reducing muzzle climb. I can take a shot at a running yote and not loose sight of it through the scope.

For me it's one of the new NR semi's. In my case the SLR in 6.5 Grendel. It's light enough, accurate enough and allows for quick follow up shots if needed.

Known the Howa Mini in 6.5G and knocked down my WT Buck @ 325 - one step and done but placement is important.

SLR is nice but mine sees way to much action and gets banged around too much for 2gs.

Ok so sounds like this is a decent rig.

If I keep it must switch to box mag. I detest the hinged floor plate.

Anyone run an MDT LSS for Hunting? Or are they bench guns?

I want this puppy as light and solid as possible.

My go to is a Weatherby Vanguard S2 in 22 250 shooting a 40 grain berger varmint. It wears a decent 3X9. In my area shots are around 200-300 on average and this rig is just a little tack driver and nice and easy to carry around.

Weatherby/Howa were my next choice. I own a few Howa and love them.

As I do love this rifle I think I'll talk to Jerry at Mystic and see what we can do

Open to used stocks if anyone has one.

For a calling rifle it is necessary to be extremely light weight with a 5 round or bigger detach mag, carrying a 10Lb plus rifle a few miles sucks..even worse when shoot a coyote. Im partial to Tikka rifles, currently using a .204 for early season coyotes and .243 for late season. For optics I prefer a scope with a large range of power. 3-18x50 Leupold VX-6 w/ firedot is really nice and what Ive settled on. Lastly I use Harris Bipods that go to 29" fully extended, they go low enough for a prone shot but high enough to sit on level or hilly terrain

I use a Tikka T3 lite chambered in .223 rem.
Optics 6-24 Bushnell ( usually only at 18 for those 400m plus shots )
Primos trigger sticks and I am good to go.

Last year it was with a friends T3 out the kitchen sliding door 185 meters to a pegged down winter kill sheep. Most effective!

I think the 223 platform is ideal, a wide verity of ammo HP, FMJ,SP..., low recoil, very accurate and cheap to shoot.
I do believe whatever caliber/setup you use the key is practice and getting used to your rig.
