Just working up some loads for my 68 gr. Hornady bullets as well as my SS109 62 grain slugs for Service Rifle shooting (100 to 500m).

I can't recall the velocity of IVI 62 gr or M855 Greentips ammo out of a 20 bbl...

I recall it's somewhere above 3000 fps, but I ain't sure. I'm also trying to ensure that the trajectory is close enough for my ACOG TA31. :p

Cheers,
Barney

Westicle:

Thanks so very much. This is what I just cut from your link'ed page:

Velocity: 3,025 fps (922 mps)

My Hornady 68 gr HPBT was averaging around 3012 fps and my SS109 bullets were averaging 3017 fps.

This is a good thing. For those of you interested in all this stuff, I'm using a ball powder from Higginson's Powders called WC735 which is a little bit faster than BLC-2 or H335. It packs smaller and meters just like WC845.

According to Westicle's link on M855 ammunition, the US Gov't is employing the WC844 surplus powder.

The current WC735 is a very efficient powder in the .223 or 5.56mm case.

Oh, btw, I'm using WIN cases and WSR primers. Nothing very special.

Group size ? Haven't gone out to group yet with my 2 ACOGs, YET.....

Cheers all,
Barney

I was using 23.5 gr of WC735 in both situations with the 68 HPBT and SS109. Your mileage/velocity may vary.

Now I did use 25.0 grains of WC735 and in both situations I ended up with averages into the mid 3200's fps. No flattened primers yet, but I decided NOT to venture any further. I figured the 3000 fps was "hot" enough especially in the context of a July NSCC competition.

Hope this helps,
Barney
